This story about a Reform councillor in Northumberland has about three different massive stories in it.

He's accused of ripping off his constituents to the tune of £140k.

He owes his own council nearly £40k in unpaid tax.

His own council is suing him.
Blyth Reform councillor Barry Elliott's property firms owe customers £140,000
Property companies owned or run by Barry Elliott owe tens of thousands of pounds to customers.

New investigation: how Sky Bet relocated to Malta to avoid £55m of tax/year This kind of tax planning is often reported as "clever, but perfectly proper, and there's no suggestion that any laws were broken".

But here it looks improper. Laws may have been broken.

Did you know, Quarry Bank is home to a fully functioning mill?

The cotton mill dates back to 1784 and still produces fabric, made on heritage machines, today.

Woven on site, the Mill Yard shop stocks unique souvenirs, tea towels, tote bags and more including this Christmas special: buff.ly/lkwzqrn

The latest Cloudflare and Amazon outages have got me thinking about utilities. We can't build modern software without dependencies. The days of running entirely on the client are over, which I see as a good thing. The cost is that we rely on infrastructure.

Today the picture is clear: electric buses rule, hydrogen buses whither.

It also begs the question as to how less attentive drivers are when they're using even basic cruise control or traffic aware cruise. Never mind any system that does the steering as well so you're essentially a passenger with a steering wheel to rest your hands on.
Tesla "robotaxi" so safe even the safety driver can fall asleep. Maybe not.

"Tesla Robotaxi in SF just over a week ago...safety driver...fell asleep at least three times...car's pay attention safety alert...woke him back up...reported [to]...support...never got a response."

Tesla "robotaxi" is indefensible, though their crash record is BETTER THAN WAYMO OR CRUISE had for initial service in SF.

Waymo had 9 crashes in first ~46k miles of commercial ridehail service.

GM Cruise had a multi-person injury crash first day of commercial ops, resulting in their first recall.
“.. Tesla’s current Robotaxi crash rate .. is about 2x higher than Waymo’s, despite in-car supervisors that prevent an unknown number of crashes.”

Blimey. There's 32,500 ish sub 100 mile 2025 cars on autotrader at the moment. 4000 ish diesels, 9500 ish petrols, 7500 ish electrics and 11500 ish hybrids.

Cheapest ones all seem to be Dacia Springs. Other end are Lambos, Porches and Ferraris.

Seems a lot to have swilling about.

In 1999 Mike O’Brien MP immigration minister proposed legislation to take asylum seekers valuables worth over £2,000.

Asked if that meant taking asylum seekers jewellery in committee he said, ‘that is exactly what we will do’

7 billion - 13 billion just to tidy up an old building?
MPs can’t even fix their own workplace. And they have failed to do so for more than a decade as it crumbles around them. There is no solution in sight.

Political metaphors don’t come more heavy-handed than that.
A final decision on how to repair Britain’s crumbling parliament is likely to be postponed beyond the next general election, according to four people familiar with the matter.
