Digital Driving Editor at The Times & Sunday Times, posting only online and in front of the paywall. Killed my Twxtter because of Elon, and feel conflicted about it. But here seems good.
Encountered this car sales scam yourself? It seems that many people have.

I put an advert for my car on Autotrader and within minutes relieved a call from a buyer who wanted to see it ASAP. He had just one request...

Scammers targeted me when I sold my car — luckily I saw the signs

"Harris switched to National Highways in 2016 after nearly 20 years in the water industry, including top roles at Thames Water, the heavily indebted utility, between 2006 and 2013."

He could take on Jaguar next, maybe?

Did you know you can customise the sections list on The Times & Sunday Times app? Scroll to the right and tap on the + symbol. You can then put the sections in any order you want... with Driving being at the top, of course.

My wife works at the coolest place, where they make costumes for film and TV. And they just launched a new website. Check out the cool stuff they've done. www.fbfx.co.uk

When was the last time you saw a really great TV advert? The early 2000s were a highlight, and for me the Honda Cog ad is a contender for greatest of all time. Some good ones after, for sure, but recently it all seems a bit... meh. youtu.be/w4XiaP-WhNw?...

Pair of new Continental boots going on the Abarth at Kwik Fit. Offside was losing pressure v slowly so this was absolutely necessary, but otherwise not too worn so the rears can wait a little longer. Always good to get new rubber, though.

Finally been going through my 520d's history and, wow... in 2025 the owner spent over two grand on it. I bought it in Jan for £6500. Nothing about the timing chain in the entire file but new air bags for the suspension in 2021, and new compressor for them last year. Amazed.

I don't normally talk to my cars but on the way back from the dealer I did promise my 520d that I'd look after it properly if it didn't sh*t itself. So far so good and today I replaced a door seal that seemed to have been nibbled by a dog. Perfect replacement from ebay (don't want to think what...

The word "may" doing a lot of work here. I'd go as far to say this is nonsense and reminds us that New Automotive is not a reliable witness. It's an EV lobby group, which is fine but to be noted. I had to stop using their registration figures a while ago. www.thetimes.com/article/2879...

The Civic Type S has gone and this F11 520d is my new ride. Much more complicated and loads could go wrong... but touch wood so far so good. Some things to sort and I will save up and replace the timing chain as a precaution but its such a lovely thing right now that it will get ALL the love.

I don't want to be rude about the caption writer here but surely that's a bare minimum requirement for a road car?

I'm potentially buying a 2015 BMW 520d (F11) with 140,000 miles on the clock and no record of the timing chain being replaced. I had no idea I liked to live life so on the edge. There will at least be three months warranty but I'll be putting money aside each month and listening for the inevitable.😬

If we really want to make young drivers safer, we should require every child to take at least one under-17 lesson. It's affordable and instills good behaviour at an age when the brain is most open to guidance.

And I've said it before: we really need a national Highway Code rules ad campaign.
Alcohol rules for novice drivers are part of the government’s road safety strategy and will make UK one of the strictest countries in Europe for drink driving
Stricter drink-drive limit for new drivers means no pints or wine

"Part of what’s troubling here is not just that the President has used force in clear violation of domestic law and international law but that it’s clear he couldn’t care less about the fact that he’s breaking these rules."

There's a word for leaders like this.

Thing is, its not black and white. Musk has a superpower, but its the same superpower that many authoritarians have. They get shit done, sometimes amazing things that are quantum leaps for humanity, but also these can come at a terrible, unjustifiable cost.

I have a cold but very happy wife. She's been on about Abarth 500s for several years so this has gone down very well! It's a pre-facelift 595 Turismo with some cosmetic damage to the rear bumper and small paint blisters on bonnet but mechanically it seems beautifully tight. 👉🪵 Merry Christmas all!

Have been tasked with finding new homes for my dad's motoring mag and book archive. He collected every copy of Autocar and Motor between certain years, indexed for his work reference. Stepmum is trying to dig out the full list of issues.

But... auction the way to go, yes? If so, which?

Each one is a unique and beautiful piece of art, specific to that car.
