Art is inefficient. Care is inefficient. Joy is inefficient. Humanity is inefficient. Don't let them take that away.
Also talked about The Onion being inefficient on purpose.

In case you’re attending #GDC2025 and do not know about this; if you’re ever feeling unsafe, need assistance, or see something troubling, you can call this 24 hour hotline.

They will listen and assist however possible whether you’re at an official GDC event or simply in San Francisco for the event.
GDC is providing an attendee Safety Hotline through April 4. Hotlines are staffed 24/7. Call +1 (925) 852-4361 to report an issue.

In San Francisco for GDC — my 26th!

Looking forward to many random encounters with old friends and new.

No joke: The ill-considered, lightning fast adoption of these faulty technologies across different sectors of society is nothing less than a mass cult conversion. It's the Kool Aid at scale, and we're treating it like a nice calming cup of green tea
An AI answering service took a message from me for my doctor the other day.

The medical receptionist called me the next day because the AI service wasn’t able to give them a coherent message.

This is at a CARDIOLOGIST’s office, by the way.

There's so much outside pressure to peel the hard rinds away and make your game fruit as broadly accessible as possible, even in the indie space. Sometimes you do just have to ignore the voice of the Product and give the Game the shape it wants.

MIT has a set of books labelled "Open Access" but it's a little clunky to find them on the MIT Press site, and so I've gone ahead and mirrored 400+ of them here:

Put all the buttons back. All of you. Don't care what industry you're in, PUT THE BUTTONS BACK!!
“Hyundai is adding buttons back to cars because focus groups reveal people actually hate using touch screens” is one of the most validating things I’ve read in years.

Hyundai’s touchscreen honeymoon is over because sometimes buttons are just better
Maybe buttons are useful, after all?

handedness can be a little hard to wrap your head around - it's a very elusive concept as it's mostly perceptual/visual rather than being a property of the numbers/math itself

notably though, you can use it to figure out positive rotation directions, given an arbitrary axis!

My friend just described the next three days as the equivalent of being in an airport lounge — calories don’t count, money doesn’t matter and no one is judging you for having a beer at 10am.

Yup.
