The reality is that I think all of this was written from the beginning (including Schumer’s eventual ousting). And the sad part is that we can probably never be sure which Democrats would have voted for this in the absence of eight convenient scapegoats who won’t face reelection in 2026.

The example also illustrates the point that many people think politicians should be duplicitous with Americans to be elected. I don’t know how that gets squared with the idea that people want their politicians to be authentic. “Please lie to me so you’ll win” is just a weird thing to think imo.
Are people here being intentionally dense? I used Obama and gay marriage as an example. That campaign was 18 years ago, and yeah, favoring gay marriage was the bleeding edge and Obama - who wanted to be elected - wisely chose not to step on that land mine.
