"And we don't understand why that is," says Cass.

Notice the unspoken, "because if we did, we'd fix it so this nonsense stops once and for all," there.

Even in accepting that done people really ARE trans, she can't hide her disappointment at not having a "cure"
Cass acknowledges "There are a tiny number of people who will never be comfortable with their biological sex, with the gender associated with their biological sex.

"And for them, a medical pathway is the only way they're going to live their life comfortably. And we don't understand why that is"

HELLO I WAS A QUEER TEEN IN THE 1990s AND THE ARGUMENTS AGAINST SOCIAL TRANSITION NOW ARE INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM THE ARGUMENTS AGAINST "LETTING" US BE (at the time, for me) GAY OR LESBIAN THEN.

They all rest on the belief that it's inherently better to be straight (then)/cis (now) and that's BS.
Hilary Cass here arguing for children to be prevented from being known by a preferred name or getting a haircut in case it encourages them to continue later in life to transition.

Hilary Cass acts like gender variant children should have the transness hazed out of them.

Cass dismissed all but the highest “quality” evidence for gender-affirmative healthcare, then failed to hold her own “solutions” to the same standard.

An unreasonably high standard of evidence for GAHT while her proposals were supported by no credible evidence whatsoever.

She has zero credibility.

I don't want to name a law for myself or something that self indulgent, but I think the Razor of Normalisation is:

If a protocol for raising children random minority developmental difference is mirrored by attempts to turn left handed kids into right handed kids, you probably shouldn't do it.

This is really sad. I just feel so despairing about this and the fact that this profound failure won't be recognised as such by most politicians.

The employment tribunal found that Upton had done nothing wrong! She was completely innocent of any kind of harassment!

To give you an idea of how deranged the UK has become about gender stuff, here's Enid Blyton - the absolute avatar of classic English conservatism and a huge fan of racist "gollywogs" - casually describing a gender non-conforming kid in the 1940s and having their friends be totally cool with it.

This is a common saying but it's not really true. We've had machines that encode maths since 6000 years ago.

I think the big problem with LLMs is just the magic 8 ball/tarot/ouija board trick. Something which outputs meaning from a random but plausible output we are always tempted to see life in.

In my ideal world, there would be something like a health ombudsman, who if a significant patient cohort reaches out to them, saying "this service is fucking failing us, a lot", an investigation happens and things get fixed.

Not "Government appointed Health Minister gets to play Tropico".

Just to clarify the sequence of events here, Fort Bliss saw a party balloon, mistook it for a drone attack, & then without coordinating with anyone at the FAA, pulled out their brand new & presumably top secret laser weapon & started firing it repeatedly into the airspace of the airport next door?
Five-byline alert: 🚨

“.. the laser was deployed near Fort Bliss without coordinating with the FAA, which decided then to close the airspace ..”

The first F1 victory for a rear-engined car was achieved through an epic tyre-save allowing Stirling Moss's outgunned Cooper to run 80 laps without a stop (he also conned Ferrari into thinking he had to pit, but that's another story). It was the fastest way to the flag, which is what racing is.
I do not agree with many famous old racers who say things like “lifting” or “fuel-saving” is “not real racing.” Motor racing is an act of driving, and people who are better at driving than others tend to beat them, and I feel like both lifting and fuel-saving are quite critical elements of driving

Right, another key thing that historians do is working with important records that have not been digitized.

And the vast majority of the world’s records *have not been digitized* and thus do not exist in any format that LLMs/AI can work with.
it's literally impossible for an LLM to do a historian's job

it's not even LLMs sucking it's that they need data input to do anything and where's that data supposed to be coming from without historians
