I know it's meant in good faith but "if we just made smaller scope games and charged 20-40 dollars for them it would fix the industry" is very funny to me. indies release like 20 of those a week on steam. are you buying them? is the industry fixed? no? hm. sounds like you need a different solution

The funny thing about Descent is it actually plays really well with keyboard aiming

Last time I played it I couldn't get mouse aim to work properly, don't remember exactly what the issue was. So I started playing WASD and arrow keys and surprisingly it felt *great*

Today's Load-bearing Tomato addresses the age old question:

"why don't the devs just [SOCIAL MEDIA OPINION]"

It turns out, "a lot of reasons", but if you never have to test your ideas, you never have to discover why they're not any good.

Bluesky needs a "stop putting post this on my feed" button

I don't need to completely hide it forever. Like if I specifically go to someone's page that's fine. I just wanna be able to tell it to stop constantly putting a bad take directly back on my timeline every time it gets popular

So far Crisol is peak 2010s slow-burn, atmospheric narrative FPS. I can see why a lot of folks have been comparing it to Bioshock, but weirdly that makes me think more of other 2010s shooters that got compared to Bioshock, like Singularity or even Cryostasis? And I mean that as a *high* compliment
Really surprised I haven't seen more buzz about Crisol: Theater of Idols! Couple hours in and it's polished, mechanically neat and has a ton of style.

"it is your responsibility to vote to be fed to the leopards"

*people who would be fed to leopards refuse to engage with a system whose only two options are "fed to leopards" and "turbo fed to leopards"*

"these people have failed their duty to the republic"

do you not see how you sound
Im not canvassing for votes I am explaining your responsibility as an enfranchized citizen of a republic
I love that my point was that liberals arguing the electorate is to blame for their failures is both morally and tactically wrong and the response every liberal has is "BUT THE ELECTORATE *ARE* THE BAD GUYS" like that's gonna help them get more votes

Last March I finally finished Hollow Knight and then Silksong gets released

Over the summer I finally finished Symphony of the Night and now we're getting a new Castlevania

Just last month I finally started catching up on Metal Gear and Master Collection 2 gets announced

What else can I manifest?

Finished Fatal Frame 5, which means I've now completed the entire main series (minus that 3DS spin off)

5 was odd. It's a big improvement over 4, but still suffers from a lot of 4's design choices, some embarrassingly tacky attempts at sex appeal, and the series' most WTF plot point: ghost incest

I am so sick of watching devs get predictably screwed over by steam reviews. How many times does this have to happen before we admit it's a bad system that doesn't work?

Anyways, Relooted looks super neat. Can't wait to check it out
Hey y'all.

A South African dev released a blackity black game during BHM and it's currently getting the usual suspects in the reviews.

Imma grab this up myself anyway, but can we all be some chums and help push the racists out of the reviews? 🙂

Relooted is OUT NOW!

Really enjoyed playing through the demo for Vholume, new game by one of the Straftat/Babbdi devs and featuring music by 1000 Eyes (Signalis composer).

In love with the architecture, the hidden little snapshots of lives lived in an impossible space.

They're building concentration camps with my tax money Chuck. They're torturing children. They're murdering innocent people on the street. What are you doing.
Our DHS reform demands are exceedingly reasonable.

We're asking ICE to do nothing more than follow the standards that the vast majority of law enforcement agencies already follow.

Republicans, the ball is in your court. The clock is ticking.

I’m annoyed by the delay too but Valve has allowed for games with AI-generated content on its storefront, at some point we can’t just sit there & say “grrr AI tech bros bad I can’t get a Steam Machine yet” without noting that the call is coming from inside the house. Valve is enabling the problem

I'm picturing something like Fatal Frame but instead of photography you frisbee these at spirits
This Super Bowl Sunday, I’d like to introduce you all to the magical curse bowls used in Upper Mesopotamia and Syria in late antiquity. Written in Mandaic (as here) or Syriac Aramaic, they trap demons who trespass on a household by sucking them in with spiraling spells to the center of the bowl.

The Lego Riven dagger arrived and it's basically everything eight year old me could have ever wanted

Not only is it a really clever set that looks perfect, but they even styled the instructions like Catherine's journal and included a note from her

Great job @cyan.com and @timtoon.com

I've complained about this a lot on here as I've played through the series, but the evolution of Fatal Frame is one of the best pro-tank control arguments I can make. Moving away from fixed cameras doesn't just change the general presentation, it actually hurts how ghosts behave in the environment🧵
Tank controls are good actually!

Anything less than the complete and total destruction of ICE is collaboration

Trying to "reform" ICE only justifies the lies that it was founded on. If you fight this hard to protect it, you're telling us who matters to you and who doesn't

We don't need ICE, and we don't need you, Chuck
SENATE AND HOUSE DEMOCRATS ARE UNITED ON REINING IN THE ABUSES OF ICE

Americans have watched in horror as ICE has terrorized communities across the country

Federal agents can’t continue to cause chaos in our cities while more Americans are killed

We must rein in ICE

Here’s what we're demanding:

I *love* Thousand Year Door. It's my favorite Mario game

But I did the Pit of 100 Trials for the first time and fuck this whole thing was a mistake. Fuck Bonetail. I really didn't need to be soured on a beloved game from my childhood but this is just miserable

I can't even leave. I'm stuck here

Ok. Well, we all knew it was evil somehow but I really didn't expect Epstein to be responsible for why video games are bad now. That's just not what I would've thought.

Even on hugely popular games with 95%+ Steam user review scores, you will almost always see some interminable, essay-length negative rant flagged as the 'most useful' and put front and center on the store page.

Part of it is Steam's upvoting system being busted. Part is human nature being stupid.
One negative review killed Pendragon. It was posted within hours of release: a detailed "objective" explanation of why they didn't connect with it.

But it's ticked as helpful by passing people *who have not played the game*. This keeps it pinned to the top.

It's longer than our description text.
RE that RT.. it’s wild how steam reviews are still so damn important to getting visibility. If you play and like indie games, the most generous and helpful thing you can do is spend an hour popping positive reviews onto anything you like with <500 or so reviews.
