Every year I watch my neighbors blow the fallen leaves from their trees and put them into the yard waste bin

And I'm like

How do you think this works, people. Where do you think your tree is getting the nutrients to grow leaves. Try to think systemically more than 30s into the future

Goldenrod in twilight’s gleam,
Feels like walking through a dream.
The trees stand guard with quiet pride,
As stars begin to peek and hide.

Goldenrod fills a twilight meadow as summer fades into fall, framed by trees and a soft blue sky.

Huh... what!? That's not a squirrel.
This is one of the reasons that I don't feed the birds any more. They have plenty of food from the thousands of native plants.
It's urban Toronto... so we get rats. But I don't see them much since I took down my bird feeders about 6 years ago.

Great article by @rebeccalovesplants.bsky.social in the WSJ... Autumn is the perfect time to "leave" the leaves in place to build soil for a Spring project with native plants... think shrubs, wildflowers, and other understory species.
