Hi! I like local cons & burns, old ("retro") nerdery, and praxis over zingers. I post not-too-private bits of my life, actionable politics and Dropout.TV shit. I follow friends and block strangers who don't introduce themselves. No offense, just say hi!

dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

This is the worst. Can't wait for the water/electricity hit for the entire area.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced today that Michigan was selected for a “multi-billion-dollar OpenAI Stargate project, built by Oracle and Related Digital,” that will be located in Saline Township.

Are fan conventions doomed? NOOOOO!!! On @ouropinions.bsky.social, we talked to a ton of people who have run scifi cons and asked one burning question: how do we fix fan-run cons? Can we make them welcoming and economically sustainable, so they serve tomorrow's communities as well as today's?
We love science fiction conventions! Especially indie fan-run conventions. But... they basically haven't changed since the 1970s.

How could cons change for the 21st century? We talked to a host of con veterans about panels, venues, volunteers, etc.

Donald is furious with Canada for pushing a video of Ronald Reagan (famously anti-tariff, frankly) talking about how ruinous tariffs are, and has "cut off discussions about tariffs" because of it. He quotes the Ronald Reagan Library who says he was taken out of context. But this is the context. 1/2

We all know this doesn't matter compared to ICE, but demolishing "Our House" to build The Epstein Ballroom is a visceral example of how he wants us to think he can do anything without consequences.

It's a batterer shoving your face to the ground and saying, I dare you to do something about it.
NYT Confirms: Trump will DEMOLISH the ENTIRE East Wing of the White House.

The Times says the East Wing is expected to be fully torn down by the weekend to make room for Trump's ballroom for billionaires — despite the fact that Trump pledged the White House would not be touched.
