Anyone who blames protesters for ICE violence is an ICE snitch

As someone who was there it was clear that ICE intended to fire teargas on the labor march, directing shots over the heads of those closest to the building and firing munitions directly at the crowd. They even chose munitions that would have the widest possible effect.
Shameful that the Portland Mayor said that “outside agitators” were responsible for triggering ICE’s assault on thousands of union members last Saturday. Then @pdxoregon50501.bsky.social threw out the ED of @jwjpdx.bsky.social for holding the mayor accountable.

At least 556 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since a U.S.-brokered truce came into effect in October, including 24 on Wednesday and 30 on Saturday, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
The Gaza ceasefire began months ago. Here’s why the fighting persists.

National Guard still occupying DC as well
There are major federal tasks forces operating still in Memphis, New Orleans, Miami-Dade, Phoenix, South Texas, still raiding homes, kidnapping people, black-bagging people from courthouses.

If ICE does controversial things but doesn't *say* controversial things, it disappears from the news.

Everything you’re hearing from the Trump administration is a lie. Today was one of the most active days in Northeast since the entire Operation Metro Surge began.

Nothing is changing on the ground in Minneapolis, no matter what headlines Trump and Homan try to create.

"immigrants’ rights advocates have celebrated Spanberger’s withdrawal but they also caution that many sheriff and police departments in Virginia will remain entangled with ICE; Spanberger’s actions don’t ban these local relationships."
NEW: Abigail Spanberger this afternoon ordered that all state agencies leave ICE's 287(g) program.

This means that the state police (and some other agencies) will no longer be empowered to detain and arrest people for ICE.

Big, big move by the governor within weeks of coming into office.
Virginia’s New Governor Ends ICE Program. Local Contracts Remain, For Now. - Bolts
Abigail Spanberger left the 287(g) program, which empowered state law enforcement to detain immigrants. Will Democrats also bar local police and sheriffs from the program?

We're calling it "A Day for Gaza." You can find links to all of the incredible pieces here. Please read! www.thenation.com/article/worl...

Today, The Nation is turning over its website exclusively to stories from Gaza and its people. This is why.

There are all sorts of parallels for what the Trump regime is doing to American cities but you could do a lot worse than looking at Ireland under British rule and Northern Ireland during the Troubles for a better understanding - a populace viewed as fundamentally hostile, little restraint, etc.

"Reforms" to ICE, like requiring judicial warrants for arrests, are not enough. This administration has made it clear that they have no intention of abiding by the law. Anything short of stripping funding from this tyrannical agency is failure by Congress.

In 2019, when @flyingwithsara.bsky.social brought up the *idea* of a general strike to end a govt shutdown, it got immediate results. Why? Because if the workers she represents all walk out, the entire U.S. transportation sector shuts down. Everything shuts down. That's the power of a general strike

Why does it matter what an action is called, so long as people are getting involved? Every time a "general strike" fizzles out, that weakens the power of the actual mechanism. A general strike is meant to send cold shivers down the state and bosses' spines. It is a threat. It is our nuclear option.

I am so happy to see so many people directing their energy against these fucking fascists! It's good! It's also very true that strikes take WORK, can last a long time, need resources and infrastructure to succeed. I spent two YEARS covering a strike in Alabama that still hasn't been resolved.

being pedantic about what is and is not a general strike isn't helpful (I'm doing my best!) but man, if we want to take these fuckers down, building power starts in the workplace. keep protesting, keep organizing, but also TALK TO YOUR COWORKERS. JOIN A UNION. then you can start talking strikes.

insisting on calling every mass day of protest or one-day boycott a "general strike" is not the move. it's good to see people rallying around the cause, it matters, but if you want to be part of a large-scale labor action that shuts down the gears of capital, start by unionizing your workplace!!!

🚨 The Senate has agreed to a deal to vote on 5/6 full appropriations bills and replace the DHS funding measure with a 2-week stopgap bill, per multiple sources. That gives time to negotiate on the Dem demands for ICE and CBP restraints.
