From what I saw in the Cork North Central boxes at the tally this morning the spoiled votes were a mix of genuine mistakes and intentional spoils, just like usual, but they were not all one group and shouldn’t be seen as that.
Many unhappy from traditional parties choosing to spoil too.

Minister Buttimer doing everything possible to deflect and deny that his party’s government has not done anywhere enough to change driver behaviour or to reduce car use for over a decade now. 🙄

Seriously, any large account over on the bird site needs to at least make placeholders here to prevent this.

Bit of contradictory info on the Met Éireann site atm. The area forecast for Cork City says Red up to midday Friday but “advisory” says 2am to 10am.
Is it localised further than the 3 counties, an update in times or a mistake?

1 year after the introduction of a generalized 30 km/h limit in Bologna, the results are quite encouraging.

For the first time since systematic data has been collected (1991), there has been zero (zero!) pedestrian killed in a road accident in 2024.

There are people driving on our roads who would kill us and leave us for dead. We don't want to hear about shared responsibility or wearing hi viz.

We want segregated cycle lanes, more enforcement and higher penalties for those who drive in a way that puts lives at risk.

Hit-and-runs made up almost 10% of serious crashes on Irish roads in last two months
It is a “serious criminal offence” to leave the scene of a road traffic collision, a Garda spokesperson said.

“Majority of cycle lanes” across Cork City starting and ending in shared paths which is normalising cycling on footpaths, campaigners say
Conflict between people cycling and those on foot is being baked into the design of many cycle routes built with the "majority of cycle lanes" across Cork City now starting and finishing on shared paths which look effectively like footpaths, campaigners have said after a local newspaper columnist complained about cycling on footpaths. The campaigners highlighted the issue after a columnist for the Cork-based The Echo newspaper, Áilín Quinlan, …

After the repairs, is illegal parking on footpaths going to be enforced to prevent more repairs being needed again? Or will it be used again by Cllr's as a vote winner in 5 years to dump more of our taxes into problems caused by motorists?

Trying to check a status of a power outage for a friend (who has turned off all internet, saving phone battery) & the link from the Power Outages page of the ESB site leads to a 404 error with a URL likely last updated in 2021.

2024 brought good progress: new designs based on the NTA 2023 guidelines, a renovated Marina, and new sections of Greenway.

Yet, Páirc Uí Chaoimh still lacks proper bike parking. Time to change that! 🚴‍♀️

"A pedestrian isn't going to kill a motorist but a motorist will kill a pedestrian very easily. A pedestrian hit by a car travelling at 30km per hour, they've a 95% survival rate but when (the speed of the car) goes up to 45 km per hour its reduced to 50%.”

It's nuts how many near misses I have in a relatively small area, nearly all from drivers breaking red lights or speeding up the wrong lane to avoid having to wait a few seconds.

The effectiveness of a campaign is based on the number of hits/views.
It's not based on the number of collisions, injuries or deaths, or people walking/cycling.
It's time to have public health experts lead road safety campaigns rather than advertising agencies.

Some diffrences in figures here for some reason RSA told IrishCycle (also via an FOI request) that the production costs were €463,569 (ex-VAT), and the advertising spend was €439,737.76 (ex-VAT).

Which totals €1.12m (including VAT) irishcycle.com/2024/11/11/e...
