In proper parliamentary style I have to declare an interest in this, as I’m a private renter and before moving to Sittingbourne I was a council housing tenant

Improving renters rights has been one of the biggest things for me so far in parliament, as is providing £39bn for building social housing
On 1 May 2026, we will abolish Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions when we switch on the new private rented sector tenancy system.

More details in our roadmap for implementing the Renters’ Rights Act published today 👇🏻

Great decision by Tower Hamlets Labour's Cllr Siraj Islam. The Bonfire Night fireworks were the upside to local residents of disruption from commercial events in Victoria Park. To have events, but no fireworks was wrong. Tower Hamlets Council should do more like this to strengthen community cohesion

For the first time ever, London has met legal limits for nitrogen dioxide.

When I became Mayor, we were told it would take 193 years. We did it 184 years earlier than expected.

Cleaner air means a healthier city and big savings for the NHS.

Last nights interim published figures of CLP nominations for Deputy Leader are very encouraging for Lucy Powell. With 221 to 140, that’s 61%.

Final nominations will be known tomorrow but this shows clear support from members from the length and breadth of the country.

You know what, yeah, people have concerns. They're concerned about paying bills, renting or buying a house, buying food, getting an NHS appointment etc. None of that's down to migrants.
If you attend a rally organised by Tommy Robinson, don't play the "legitimate concerns" card. You're a racist. 1/
Ranvir Singh: "I don't want to believe that 150,000 people are out & out racists.. the worry for me is that somebody whos got a concern.. they end up being [represented by] someone whos very extreme"

Absolutely, the far right is using issues like the boats to radicalise people

Well spoken Kevin - I wish more MPs were like you.

Musk is an evil man and should keep his nose out British politics.

I left Twitter (I refuse to call it by that other name) well over a year ago and I do not miss it.
Given the context and the crowd, despite Musk’s weasel words, this was a call for violence against the British state, from a foreign national who controls a major propaganda engine, and has engineered it to monetise hate

Suppose I shouldn’t be surprised at this point, but that this manages to combine being totally against all evidence, emotionally hurtful to the people being dragged into it and potentially fatally dangerous to public health, all as part of a piece of political grifting, still manages to shock

My friend Eve McQuillan has published this article on the difference between the UK and Spain in terms of parental leave.

While there’s lots of good stuff in the welfare bill that will help people in Sittingbourne and Sheppey, I can’t support the current proposals on PIP.
That’s why I’ve joined more than 100 Labour MPs demanding the government thinks again and listens properly to the voices of people with disabilities.

Sadly it’s the first May 12th since 1998 I’m not registered with the NMC as a nurse due to a big career change in July

One reason I ran as an MP was so healthcare workers voices are represented & I’ll keep pushing for better pay and better working lives

Massive love to all my old colleagues today
🌍 Today on International Nurses Day, we celebrate the dedication, compassion and skill of nursing staff across the UK. #NursesDay #CelebratingNurses

💜 UNISON is proud to stand with our members - it's time nurses were valued properly – and paid for the work they do every day.

Everyone I’ve talked to in since being elected has raised mental health as one of our biggest challenges locally. Groups dealing with this don’t always get the chance to link up and share what they’re doing, so today I’ve set up a constituency conference to bring people together to help address this
