An acquaintance of mine once tried to insist that making a loose fist to check your nails was feminine/gay but holding out an open hand to check them was masculine and I think I always knew that kind of shit was dumb but that incident removed all doubt.
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

Right-wingers love this line and spout it thoughtlessly for two reasons:

1. To delegitimize legitimate protest against their leaders and policies. "You'd have to be paid to oppose this", in a similar vein to Insert Conservative Leader Name Derangement Syndrome, "you'd have to be mentally ill".

Trump Admin I vets will tell you, the real fun* doesn't begin until he starts firing his own appointees.

*"fun" in this context denoting "alarming but also ridiculous horrors"

Ken Burns tells American stories and WWI is barely an American story.

He should go hard and tell the story of American corruption. Big topic, mind you.
I figure Ken Burns has one, maybe two big documentary series in him before he fully retires. What do you think they should be? My votes include Football, Hip-Hop, World War 1, Reconstruction (though Skip Gates did this one well), Iraq/Afghanistan, 19th Century Expansionism.

This is solid. I'd almost call it consensus except that doesn't exist in Star Wars fandom.
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

One of my longer-term concerns is that even if Trumpism fails, and it seems to be doing so albeit more gradually than preferred, the American Right and its global allies will simply learn the lesson that they must develop and train more competent fascists.
Comey and James cases dismissed. Because Lindsey Halligan.

No legitimate prosecutor would manufacture charges against Trump’s political enemies, and one willing to failed.

Authoritarian abuses don’t work without capable personnel. Or much deeper corruption of the courts, which they don’t have.
NEWS: The criminal cases against James Comey and Letitia James are gone. A federal judge ruled that the appointment of Lindsey Halligan as the lead prosecutor was illegal.

DOJ could try again, but there are other headwinds.

Look, just because I'm not using all of these power bars right now doesn't mean I won't use them at some point in the future.
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Hear me out, but though Wuthering Heights is probably the peak work of art that people treat as "romantic" even though it's kind of fucked up and wrong to do so, an Emerald Fennel-directed adaptation while very unlikely to be good has some *major* demented freakshow potential.

Face-Eating Leopard Party is one of the posts of our time, but it's a funny observation, not any sort of explanatory paradigm.
The baffling part is how many people were giving him the benefit of the doubt in January and now don't approve. They got new information and changed their mind. But he was already president before! How did you not already know he sucks??

He's got an odd way of expressing that, what with saying that he does.

But all right, if the mean lady whose job it is to lie to the public says that he doesn't mean it, I'm sure there's nothing to worry about.

CONSERVATIVE: The Lamestream Media is so biased that it won't tell you the hidden, forbidden truth!

LIBERAL: Does that truth happen to be all of the things that party-line conservatives have believed in and enacted as policies for 200 years?

CONSERVATIVE: Yes, but now we have new words for them!

No heroes, no gods.
I want to lay down a few markers here for folks as the clock starts ticking down to the release of the Epstein Files.

1) You are going to learn about a lot more disgusting and sickening things people said, joked about and maybe even did. You will likely be disappointed in someone you had admired

The real capstone I'd put on this thread is that I've found the right-wing fervor over the supposed social engineering of 15-minute cities so ironic because the only reason any of them think that is because they are the subjects of the most successful project of social engineering in human history.
Stancil has no core theory of political/social/economic ideology which is why he thinks and posts things like this but also one of my core conceptions of those elements of North American life is that suburbanization has been so forcefully pushed on people that they can't conceive of an alternative.
Right, this is true, but the OVERWHELMING evidence of the past 100 years of American life is that vastly more people want space and a car than a smaller unit and a car-free lifestyle. This is mostly why the suburban share of US population has grown relentlessly for the entire 20th and 21st century

Some people put a premium on space in my experience, others put a premium on not having to have a car and not being isolated out in the suburbs

Possibly this is answered in the article that I can't read atm, but would the patient also not be told which they were getting until they got the bill?
Because that sounds like the kind of scam Danielle Smith's private health care grifter backers have dreamed of for years.
Per @carrietait.bsky.social, under the province's proposal Alberta doctors will be allowed to toggle between public and private at will, not telling the government what services they intend to provide or under what circumstances they intend to provide public or private care.

Johnny Cash's "The One on the Right is on the Left" is entirely vindicated on this point.
Of all the bands I would have expected to include a leftwing guy, a rightwing guy, and a Matt Yglesias style centrist, System of a Down would have ranked very low

I'm old enough to remember "Bush Derangement Syndrome" from the 2000s. When they go back to that parched well again, you know that they've really got nothing.
“NBC's Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage…”
