I was not expecting Ted Hughes’ Birthday Letters to be so filled with contempt. They don’t seem to be poems to a person he loved, but rather a clap back to someone who filled him with derision.

It's gotta be frustrating for journalists scraping by and doing great work to go to NY Times dot com and read a puff piece written by a nepo baby that whitewashes a journalist who had sex with a source and has now parlayed that into a new book and a job at Vanity Fair

At this point the Metro Blue Line is basically a tour of public amenities we are denied access to on the off chance they might benefit a homeless person.
I always get so depressed when I see the permanently fenced off amphitheater in front of the central library in downtown Minneapolis. This beautiful sculpture overhangs a completely unusable public amenity.

“Just the day before he was detained, Ya’akub had recorded and participated in a city council meeting in the Dallas suburb of Richardson, where he spoke out in support of local community leader Marwan Marouf who was detained by ICE, according to a court filing from his legal team last week.”
A photojournalist was arrested by ICE at gunpoint — and his DACA status revoked.

“Ya’akub isn’t being accused of breaking immigration law — his DACA protection doesn’t expire until May 2026. In fact Ya’akub’s lawyers say he hasn’t been accused of any crime.”

Kris Kollins isn't a great actor, but neither was Prince. While Kollins’ acting is lacking, his resemblance to Prince is almost uncanny, and what he lacks in range, he makes up for in charisma. www.minnpost.com/artscape/202...

This novel has been getting press in The New Yorker, the New York Times, The Guardian, the Times Literary Supplement, and beyond — but has attracted surprisingly little attention in our area, given that the title was literally written by @duluthnewstribune.com reporter Tom Olsen.
Front Row Seat: Chris Kraus explores Iron Range murder in new novel
"The Four Spent the Day Together" was inspired by the 2019 killing of a man on a Hibbing trail. It's a winding, metafictional exploration of personal responsibility — including the author's.

Pardons are such an odd aspect of the American justice system. They are so seemingly arbitrary and give power to just a small number of people. By their nature they negate the validity of the court system.

After Sylvia Plath died, her ex-husband wrote to a friend, "That's the end of my life. The rest is posthumous." I wonder what it was like to live a posthumous life for 3 and a half decades? Prolific in literary output, certainly. But perhaps also haunted, especially given his final book of poems.
