Mainstream pundits have instantly sanitized and ignored Charlie Kirk's core political project and its impacts. He has been remembered by the mainstream press as someone they merely disagreed with, a debate me-guy whose words and actions had zero consequences:

Charlie Kirk Was Not Practicing Politics the Right Way
The mainstream media seems entirely uninterested in explaining Charlie Kirk's work.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk makes we worry we can no longer have peaceful discussions of whether gays should be stoned to death or civil and collegial debates about whether black people are inherently inferior. Our culture will suffer.

It is weird that the assassination of essentially a celebrity influencer is a bigger deal than the shooting of two top state legislators + their spouses

One of the defining experiences of my life, and I think yours, is gradually witnessing the internet degrade from the most sophisticated tool for information distribution in history into a cesspit of misinformation and falsehoods.

It's a world-historical tragedy, what's happening to us.

cool cool cool now the teens can turn to dr chatgpt where there's a non-zero chance your new best friend/therapist will help you find the best pills in your parents medicine cabinet and write your suicide note for you
Teens calling Idaho's suicide hotline are being told they can't proceed with the conversation without parental consent. Many of the callers are then hanging up.

Idaho approved a strict parental consent law last year.

fun fact: if any politician in the United States so much as hints at wanting to separate housing from the profit motive, the New York Times will immediately start taking dictation from actual neo-Nazis in an attempt to scuttle their electoral chances
The way that housing co-ops work in Switzerland may seem foreign to many. But the central idea is simple: What if homeownership had no profit motive and no capital gains? Advocates say their model could reshape how the world thinks about affordable housing. www.nytimes.com/2025/08/26/r...

When there was positive economic data under Biden, the New York Times told us to worry, with headlines like:
“Why a Strong U.S. Economy Is Making Stock Investors Jittery”
and
“Inflation Has Been Easing Fast, but Wild Cards Lie Ahead”
But when there is worrisome data under Trump, NYT reassures us:

As I wrote for EFF: You cannot predict crime, what you can do is weaponize people's proximity to policing. In a neighborhood with a lot of police? Have a lot of friends or neighbors that have been arrested? Guess what the data now says about you...

you know how I wrote about the fucking insane Yudkowsky AI God shit?

AI 2027 is written by three of Yudkowsky's acolytes, it's literally that shit
"AI 2027" argues that AI will reach roughly human level in roughly 2027. This just happens to be right about when OpenAI would expect to start to run out of money.

I argue that this is not a coincidence at all, and its predictions are all wrong.

Literally the only “sign” of the issue gaining traction is the existence of the article itself, which is fun in a meta way, but not exactly illuminating of the opinions of New York voters outside the NYT newsroom.

These guys are segregationists, which is not actually that surprising given the political history of Silicon Valley that they came up in and perpetuated. The ten years when some execs pretended to like Obama was the anomaly. This is the return to form.
What discrimination did Andreessen face? He went to a public university & was able to work on early federally funded research projects on computing, and turn that into a career.

The insanity of the last 8 years? Workers or online posters who disagreed with him? A government that dared regulate him?

The idea is that there's a secret resistance to the rise of fascism, so I really do get the appeal. Sadly, Democratic leadership hasn't offered any real resistance to Trump, so the average liberal is left with QAnon-style grifters who are just copying articles without attribution and selling merch.

The New York Times was more skeptical of the academic qualifications of a black woman who had secured tenure and become the president of Harvard than they were of a white man who washed out of a grad program with a massive scandal and then became a white nationalist troll.
The saga of the NYT's anti-Mamdani story taken from notorious white supremacist Jordan Lasker (they call him an "academic") gets even more amazing: Lasker's only impactful paper, which claimed white people are smarter, is infamous: it misused data so badly it got his tenured co-author fired. 2/

one of the weird things about living in this country in 2025 is that basically half of the population has memory wiped most of 2020-2021 and when you try to remind them they just say “no I’m pretty sure I would remember that” and they include the NYT and most of the democratic leadership
