My rummage sale luck & my coat luck converged this week. I thrifted 3 vintage coats. A 90's wool-lined Eddie Bauer raincoat with a detachable hood for my mom, a 80's Indigo wool coat with great lines and giant buttoned pockets, and a divine 60's caped trench raincoat lined in wool & satin.

One of my pubs forgot for a year they had to count US sales because publisher in question was the lead publisher. So for a year I had no US sales data & was told I was not earned out (I was) + then it took months of bugging them to even get numbers. Anyway, they owe me several thousand $'s still.
You get money from a book you published on a date you can't predict. it will be a sum you can't predict. you will never know if the ranch is saved or not. Everyone makes interest off your royalties before you do, and you're probably not making *any* interest at all

And you don't have dental.
No, authors aren't burnt out because "writing without AI is slow"

We're burnt out because we're paid dirt so we need day jobs to survive

2. Demand Congress haul Hegseth etc. in for hearings/briefings on justification

3. Demand to know why the Gang of Eight was not kept in the loop.

Recipe: so I just slapped cajun seasoning on the ribs, threw them in the instant pot for 25 min high pressure with 2 sliced peaches, some dijon, 2 TB of garlic and 2 cups chicken broth. Let it pull down pressure, then condensed the broth+fruit into a sauce by adding maple syrup + marmalade.
I'm making country ribs with a peach bbq sauce and serving it over a cheesy polenta with coleslaw on the side for lunch today and I just want it to be done so I can eat it.

Well, I had to just kill a rattlesnake and feel terrible. The one aspect of rural life I do not like is protecting from predators because emotionally I am like "It's their home, too!" But I've also had a dog bit by a rattler before and it's the most horrific thing ever.

This conversation about marketing and traditional publishing and authors is worth reading if you don’t know what the utterly ridiculous expectations that are put on authors:
But AUTHORS are being asked to market direct to consumers, without a single tool to judge what is effective, and without publishers really even having the historical infrastructure to support that. And authors are held fully responsible for if a book succeeds/fails, in spite of having no tools.

All The Women I Met in Jail
A law meant to help victims of domestic violence often results in their arrest. One woman details surviving abuse and the system that claimed to protect her.
