Oh look, they’ve even included their content label on their launch announcement so we can see how fucked up their attitude in this moment is! This won’t prevent librarians from buying or endanger librarians and educators in our hostile book banning environment at all!

Me, forever trying to capture the weirdness of where I grew up. It did take me awhile as a kid to realize not everyone had people riding horses down their neighborhood streets.

So I was asked how I handle this kind of writing schedule and deadlines with, you know, getting sick or missing a few days because: life.

So I'm gonna talk about balance, creating a buffer and prioritization.

Pacemaker is where I nail down the REAL schedule. Where I decide: is this book a weekend book or a weekday book?

I can shift between projects in a day, but I prefer having designated days for each project, it makes me brain happy. And Pacemaker is Queen of Doing That and More.

I am also using @kateerobert.com's airtable template to run my entire production schedule this year, which I can organize by quarter or by year. I LOVE gantt charts but am bad at making them on my tablet, so this is my favorite thing ever and where I keep all my deadlines.
December 17, 2024 at 10:16 PM
So first things first, I just make your basic kanban board for the quarter in Trello and detail the quarterly goals. I need to revise a proposal, finish drafting book 1 + 2 in a series, write 3 installments of another, finish a book Jim's putting on sub, and draft my next adult thriller.
December 17, 2024 at 10:11 PM
My 2025 already looks unhinged word count wise and this is just the contracted books, the books to go on sub and the indie, IP/WFH gets added as I book the work.

I lay out my month. Every project is color coded because I find it helpful. I do weekly and daily spreads as well, but I like having a color coded break down with the daily word counts at a glance so I can remember: it's just 2-3K at a time.
August 27, 2023 at 4:34 PM
So I double up on the rest of the weekdays. As you can see, on Wednesdays I've set it so that I'm revising more chapters on TGIQ and drafting less on ITP. And then on Thurs/Fri I'm doing a regular pace on both, which is 3200 words on ITP and 5 chapters of TGIQ revised.
August 27, 2023 at 4:32 PM
I start to fiddle with my word count with Pacemaker. I have the premium account you pay for. I love Pacemaker because it allows me to lessen the work load on certain days, go hard on others, etc. My YM deadline is the furthest away, so I set a steady pace 2x a week.
