now i'm not an anti-anglist and many of my best friends are english but the country is overcrowded and it's not culturally harmonious and the obvious solution is to deport all the english. it's not their fault they came here while it was legal in the 5th century but england should be for foreigners

This is the funniest thing I’ve seen for a while. Congrats @deutschebahn.com !

And yes Germans do a sense of humour as well. I guess things need to go to shit before you discover it. 😉
Fascinating: Germans love to complain about their trains never being on time. Deutsche Bahn plays for humor and sympathy by commissioning a YouTube sitcom (an Office on wheels).

The details are horriffic, but the reporting is excellent, especially considerng the risks to journalists in Gaza www.theguardian.com/world/2025/s...

This is a disgraceful reversal by the EAA and a shocking interference in academic freedom.

It is clearly the case that asylum protests were smaller this weekend than the small over-hyped protests on August 8th, and smaller than in the second half of July.

No broadcast outlet has accurately conveyed that + asked why: they have explicitly stated and inferred growing protests

Sunday protests seem to be < 500 nationwide, maybe < 300, across 4-6 locations

Yet ITV news using language of "erupt nationwide" (!)

Epping: 100-150
London: 20
Birmingham: 30
Stevenage: 30-50
Norwich: ? anything of any scale
Manchester: ? anything of any scale
Dudley: ? anything of any scale?

As an alumna and former holder of one these JRFs, I've just written to the Principal to express my shock and disappointment at this reversal of decades of inclusivity. I'm really questioning my support for the college now.
The @newnhamcollege.bsky.social research fellowship competition is now open - if you're a woman looking for a 3-year postdoc in one of this year's subjects (see next post), please apply!
