Two new cookbooks: @koshersoul.bsky.social new book and @wck.org cookbook! Excited to get into both of them. Twitty is one of my favorite culinary writers! And WCK is an amazing nonprofit.

Happy Stranger Things Season 5 Part 2 premier for those who celebrate!

Great 🧵. 2 types of people I generally see saying this:
1) atheists who still want to take part in christian culture that they like &/or
2) People who (consciously or unconsciously) are connected to the idea of Christianity as universal & therefore everyone celebrates Xmas.
The nuanced take: What you mean is that it can be fully and properly celebrated without even acknowledging the religious meaning of the holiday. One who celebrates Christmas in an irreligious way isn't seen as doing it wrong (except by fundies maybe). So how can it be necessarily Christian?

Answer:
December 24, 2025 at 7:25 PM
Yearly reminder: Some Jews observe Xmas bc they like it or, like me, we are interreligious marriages & our in laws celebrate.
Some don't care about Xmas. A day off is a day off.
Some find it annoying (like me). People & stores can be a bit extra about Xmas.
All are valid. Xmas is not universal.

Public administration as performed by social media influencers.
I am telling you that a large part of their dysfunction is that several Trump officials imagine themselves, constantly, as being in a social media sizzle reel where they display status and dominance over others. Their online personas are driving their actual behavior.
Kash Patel made the FBI buy a custom fleet of armored BMW X5 for him to ride around in. trib.al/9pBbwTB

Patel’s FBI spokesperson claimed—without evidence—that this is actually saving the American taxpayer money. The standard version of the X5 costs about $70,000.

There are so many great biologists showing the complexity of gender and sex in the world.
Hey, fellow evolutionary biologists:

If you support trans rights, like, comment, or repost this. I want to show that transphobes like Richard Dawkins are a loud minority that does not represent our community
And that’s a follow.

Actually I do have a question if you have a sec.

Without exception the most transphobic group of scientists I’ve run into online are evolutionary biologists. Every single one of them has expressed the same opinion: transness cannot be anything other than social contagion. Why?

Sometimes I just think about the resources and time that people put into bullying and harming the transgender community. Like there is so much good that people can do but instead spending their time and money on hate.

My colleague, Jose Lara, has a new edited volume out: Constructed Latinx(s) Identities: Racialized Bodies in Visual and Textual Culture. The book has some amazing essays on Latinx identities in the United States from diverse academic perspectives.

For the last night of channukah, we have all of the menorahs lit. From front to back, Sy made one, one Nate & I bought when we first moved to NY, one my mom made, and one for our baby. It's beautiful to see all of the candles lit. Chag sameach!

Whipped up sables today and dipped them in milk chocolate. Working on getting things to look more and more perfect and the taste was on point. The sables melted in my mouth.

Recently, HHS released a report on gender affirming care for transgender youth (Link to my analysis below). Now they are going after gender affirming care. This is simply bullying trans youth, plain and simple. The science shows that GAF saves lives.

When teaching ethics during my research methods class this year, they asked if there were any more recent ethical issues in research & I talked about how randomized trials are used in unethical ways. The idea that we would withhold treatment is awful but there is a racism aspect.

Instead of a cookie box in December, what if I did cookie boxes in February. It's so cold up here in MA and it would be a nice way to begin the semester.

It's the third night of channukah! I love how beautiful a channukiah is lit up in the dark.

I show this to my students every year. It was created by Radi-Aid who also did some great work on how NGOs perpetuate stereotypes in marketing. My students love this reading (it is linked in the article).

Today is my husband's first day of work after paternity leave. As is our tradition, I have been spending the day sending pics of what our baby has done today home with me. So far she has:
Stared out the window looking for daddy.
Responded to emails.
Worked out.
Used a telescope.
Played the switch.

This is an honest question: could an lgbtq group sue now the tpusa is allowed but LGBTQ groups aren't?
Christian indoctrination in schools should be mandated ... but if a club for LGBT people wants to meet in a school, heads explode.

Dinner for the first night of Channukah: reverse-seared steak, couscous with crispy shallots, and roasted sunchokes.

No matter what, we continue to be Jewish and continue the traditions. And now I get to share the traditions with my amazing children. Happy Channukah.

Seeing Avengers: Endgame with Nate and one of my besties. We had seen all of the movies together and the ending just made everyone scream in the theater. It was amazing.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
