Police who keep their identities secret are, quite literally, secret police. I don’t know why this is even controversial. You don’t get to yank people off the streets while hiding your face and identity and still retain the respectability of an accountable, democratic police force.

Unlike NYPD, your agents don’t identify themselves & wear masks that cover their faces. Now they ignore judges’ rulings, too.

What law enforcement agents are supposed to uphold … is the rule of law.

In New York, ICE detained a busload of farmworkers that were actively involved in a union drive.

In Washington state, ICE dragged a farmworkers’ rights activist and leader out of his car to detain him.

NEW: A SECOND story was released today of a Venezuelan man disappeared by the Trump admin. Neiyerver Leon is a barber who entered legally seeking asylum in June 2023. ICE arrested him on March 13 and accused him of being in TdA.

Days later, he vanished off the face of the earth.
Leon Rengel was briefly held at East Hidalgo Detention Center, a private facility in La Villa, Texas, used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Then — nothing. His alien number, a way to track his whereabouts, vanished two days later from ICE’s online system. He disappeared. ICE agents told Gutierrez her boyfriend had been deported to his home country. But the family has searched in Venezuela, and he isn’t there, she said. “I’ve been to the ICE office. I’ve contacted the FBI. The DEA. Everyone told me the same thing: He was deported,” Gutierrez said. “But where to? He never arrived in Venezuela.” It’s possible that the Trump administration deported Leon Rengel to a mega-prison in El Salvador, where hundreds of other Venezuelans were sent last month — but there is no official record to confirm it.

The people of Sackets Harbor—and especially the school administrators and teachers—should serve as an example for us all that resistance can work. You do not need to comply in advance. The Trump administration is powerful, but not invincible. This story is a reminder to journalists that reporting on things happening in the smallest places can have the largest impact. My hats off to the local journalists who first made noise about this miscarriage of justice. I feel fortunate that I could help amplify it, and that we can celebrate this small but powerful victory. And we can rest a little easier knowing the third grader will finally get to see the welcome home banner hung by classmates with love.

But Councilor Sharon Durkan (Back Bay, Fenway, Beacon Hill, Mission Hill), says she's grown increasingly frustrated with people rage blaming everything on bicycle lanes, that the point of them and related road changes is to make roads safer for "those that are most vulnerable - pedestrians and people on two wheels." She said that while riding her bike recently, some guy in a vehicle yelled at her from behind: "You better move, you fat bitch!" She did not say which road she was on at the time. "With every bike lane that we have built in the city, we absolutely have saved lives," she said. "With every bike lane that hasn't been built, with every protection that does not exist, with every barrier that does not exist, we have had injuries. In district 8, we have had two deaths, one on a scooter and one a pedestrian, since I've been in office, and I think, for me, pedestrian safety, and the safety of the most vulnerable road users are people that we do need to prioritize, in addition to businesses, in addition to other voices and residents."

This is a problematic headline. And ultimately can be dangerous.

The wording makes it sound like this was the position of Jewish groups, whereas in truth opinions were diverse.

This gives credence to these groups as if they speak for the Jewish community as a whole. They don't.
