Fuck all of you stupid shitheads who didn't vote for Kamala in 2024, or Hillary in 2016, or Gore or Kerry or anyone who isn't your perfect magical Star Trek utopia candidate.

IF FASCISTS LOSE ELECTIONS, THEY CAN'T DO THIS SHIT.

Fuck all of you. I hate you all.

one thing i have noticed is a lot of folks do not seem to understand the difference between a presidential election and 435+ legislative elections. i have seen any number of people say that you could subvert the outcome this november by targeting “swing states,” which does not make any sense.

Steve Bannon says ICE will ‘surround the polls’ as Trump doubles down on taking over elections
Trump doubled down on his comments to nationalize voting Tuesday during an Oval Office press conference. “If you think about it, a state is an agent for the federal government in elections,” Trump sai...

There’s a reason these guys mostly only win when things are decided by online vibes. They can simply conjure up the most terrifying fantasies and gleeful abuses and have millions of people treat them as if they happened. But move offline and they get wrecked by cold hard physical reality

There is not an endless ICE army. In the largest DHS deployment in history, they can’t muster enough dudes to subdue one single mid-sized US metro. Good luck seizing America by force, guys

Always remember THEY DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH GUYS. In the realm of Online, they can just say things and have them treated as true. In the realm of Real Life, there are 115,000 polling places in America and DHS has like 15,000 dudes total.

ICE is not going to send out a solo goon, or even two solo goons, to stand at urban polling places. Great way to: have your guys quit instantly, and also ensure 100% of votes are locked against you.
Yeah and put a masked armed ICe Nazi around the right 15000 polling places could depress enough votes

This is a good point, and only emphasizes that how those who resist Trump report RIGHT NOW on threats he and his supports make to election integrity matters.

These threats work by being spread, creating a fear they cannot back up.

DO NOT DO THEIR WORK FOR THEM.
I’ve been working on the Lawyers’ Committee Election Protection project for more than 20 years. This kind of threat happens in almost every cycle and almost never materializes. The threat - creating fear - IS the voter suppression tool. It costs nothing so any suppression it produces is a plus.

Look, if they do this, it's bad.

But also, the math doesn't entire math for me. Cook County alone has ~3,000 voting precincts, and some must have multiple polling stations.

There are ~4,000 armed ICE agents in US. More CBP (who are lumped in w this, prob). But even if we get to 20,000 armed ppl?

This is where I come down as well.

I take his intent seriously, but there's a huge gap between what he wants to do and what he can actually do given the way our elections are run.

We need an all-out effort to make sure he "wins" as little as he can, but the doomerism is largely misplaced.
1. Trump certainly wants to fully rig elections.
2. He has no actual plausible plan to do so.
3. We should absolutely take the threat very seriously and actively do what's possible to protect elections and democracy.
4. What's actually likely is success or failure at the margins; every bit counts.
The last time he started talking like this, his allies minimized the risks and we ended up with January 6. This time we must take him literally and seriously. These comments are a five-alarm fire for democracy. In a functioning republic, he would be impeached and removed from office today.

Now, why are Trump & Rs worried about an election today in Texas of all places? This site assures me that he has a 'steal elections' button he can press whenever he wants. He can just do that there, right?

Ps: a common refrain that you'll hear is that "you're saying the Dems can't be at fault, it's the voters, as if the voters owe something to politicians and not the other way around!"

Yes, actually, that's how the social contract of democracy works. Voters yet the government they work for. Or don't.

my increasingly curmudgeonly take is that we all, in fact, have responsibilities. politics isn't an arena for self-actualization. it's an arena for public service. this is as true of voters as it is of politicians.

Crimes against humanity. Science has helped humanity improve its 200,000+ year hellish existence and these fuckers are ruining it. Our intelligence is supposed to be the thing that separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom and these wastes of oxygen squander it with glee. I hate them forever.
This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

let's say the president wants to suppress the vote in detroit. assuming a conventional 20 soldiers for every 1000 civilians ration, he would need more than 12,000 ICE agents — more than double the current number of field officers — to occupy detroit and only detroit, a city of 630,000 people
imho people are focusing on the words "cancel the midterms" and saying uh actually a president cannot do that at the expense of what they would actually try to do, ie send troops/ice into liberal cities to suppress the vote
the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?

Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.
