No, no one, me included, expects this to work. But we don't even try. We just yell at Democrats & pretend they can Do A Magical Unicorn as the minority party, exercising control of exactly <zero> institutions of the federal government. It's maddening. We can't focus as a country. Just incredible.

Democrats in Congress on Saturday raised constitutional concerns and said that the Trump administration had misrepresented its goals in Venezuela, while Republicans cheered the operation that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.

This is why I tell people that toppling a regime is relatively easy for the US. It's putting the country back together that's difficult, b/c all of the factions -- even ones who supported the US effort -- fracture and pursue their own interests. Those interests don't always align to the US position.
Our military and intelligence pros are good at what they do. However, they rely on elected officials to insure that the policies they execute are wise. It remains to be seen. Our initial forays into Iraq and Afghanistan were impressive as well, but it is the longer run picture that matters.
Trump said President Maduro and his wife were placed on a ship, the USS Iwo Jima, to be taken to New York, and that they were removed from Venezuela by helicopter.

“They went by helicopter, a nice flight. I’m sure they loved it.” he told Fox & Friends.

Spot on
Maduro is bad, his government has been bad, that’s not the point. There are multiple bad state leaders in the world.

The point is whether removal by force makes things better.

Whatever the goal—drugs? migration? conditions in Venezuela?—destabilization could make things worse.

So like…now what? Is there a plan here exactly for what happens when you decapitate a government overnight?

Or is this just the “Jesus take the wheel” school of military planning?

What's a little ethnic cleansing among friends?
Trump: "I heard that number today -- half of Gaza would leave. I've always said it. I said if they were given the opportunity to live in a better climate, they would move. We're helping the people of Gaza a lot. So is Israel, by the way."

And at the time, Italians were considered to be the bottom rung of people. As evidenced by Martin and many others changing to Anglo last names.

Completely expected, but good to have research data helping support what we always knew to be the case.
DOGE was A LOT less likely to cancel contracts from companies that donated money to Republicans than companies that donated to Democrats.

If we were to provide Ukraine with the support they needed through the end of 2026, I think Russia would have to back down. Their economy is on the precipice of disaster.
Putin meant for this to be a show of strength but anyone who has been paying attention will see it for what it is: an act of desperation.

Time to double down on support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia; and relegate Putin to the ash heap of history alongside his beloved Soviet Union!

Senator Kelly is correct.

Plus a Public Service Announcement:

KEY section of Department of Defense's Law of War Manual is 18.3.2.1.

The VERY rule on the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders gives as its paradigmatic example of what is "clearly illegal:
"orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

The judiciary is a co-equal branch of government, designed to provide a check and balance to the other two branches. So if you're not following the checks imposed by that co-equal branch, you are literally violating the Constitution.
KARL: Did you know about the judge's order when you issued your order for the planes to continue?

KRISTI NOEM: This is an activist judge. We comply with all federal orders that are lawful and binding.

The war will end when Russia stops fighting. Therefore, pressure has to be put on Russia, so that they stop believing that they will win. Why is that so hard to understand?
November 27, 2025 at 1:49 AM
And it would play into Putin's hands. Assuming the US does discuss security guarantees in good faith, Russia would immediately balk and start saber rattling. They used this Western encirclement canard as the reason to re-invade Ukraine and would do it again.

Can't be that Tzar Putin is throwing blood and treasure badly fighting a war against a country half its size, can it? Also, I'm sure some of the money goes straight into Putin's and other's Swiss bank accounts. Well governed machine (sarcasm).
The Kremlin has decided to publicly blame the west for a forthcoming tax rise to spare Vladimir Putin from criticism that his war economy is starting to hurt ordinary Russians.

Putin still holding on to maximalist goals, likely b/c no matter what happens, he'll get positive terms from the US. If the Trump admin wants this to end, they need to put actual pressure on Russia.
Russia flat out rejects Trump's 28-point peace plan: "Even in a reduced military and territorial form, Ukraine would remain a significant danger, requiring us to keep our forces on the western borders."
