Housemaid was a preposterous white feminism 101 movie but it was pretty fun. The escalation from microaggressions to hot sex to blood and chaos is paced out well, and I was lucky enough to get a rowdy audience who ate it up and loudly relished in the camp.

really cannot be emphasized enough that bari weiss has literally never done journalism. i don’t mean that in the pejorative sense. i mean that in the “has never performed the job she was hired to do” sense
One explanation for Bari killing the story is that she did so as a public act of fealty to the administration. But another is that, as an inexperienced journalist, she doesn’t understand that a refusal to go on the record is a kind of comment in and of itself

I liked War Between the Land and the Sea overall, though it felt curiously muted and scattershot. A few too many single scene ideas and a struggle to focus on the most interesting bits in places, but I like the sweeping images, the despair at humanity, and the romantic melodrama. Ok Dr Who offshoot.
