Incidentally I'm halfway through reading this. Not that hooked by the mystery itself but it does at least do what Broadchurch did well which is portray a very distinct regional community, its fractures, and the way a tragic crime speaks to them.

And claims like this straight up just weren't true. I was very active in Doctor Who fandom at the time, though nearly quit with how disillusioned that episode made me - particularly because a lot of fans of the era overwhelmingly were insisting that was a great episode and a perfectly OK scene.
