Also think the diff between Farage and Tice’s (lies damned lies) defence is revealing. Farage is taking a risk in hoping that with him voters will choose authenticity over integrity… Tice would rather lean into conspiratorial victimhood. Really shows the dividing paths of rightwing populists atm
Farage’s defence of his schoolboy racism leans on an anti-#MeToo vibe... the idea that everyone rolls their eyes at being held to account for “old” behaviour. But he’s wildly overestimating how many Brits spent their youth swaggering around public school shouting antisemitic slurs
It's revealing about taboos around racism that the visceral bullying racism of schoolboy Farage cuts through while the much more consequential thinly veiled racism of adult Farage doesn't. Many people need that veil and flinch when it's removed. You can advocate racist policies but not say the words

Your reminder that the EU offered to freeze Brexit talks in 2020 so we could focus on Covid but Johnson said no. He then fucked up both: partying while 23,000 needlessly died & did a Brexit so shit the economic impact (-8% GDP) is worse than predictions he described as “the work of gloomsters”
