It’s Banned Books Week, and I don’t need you to buy my book as a solve for it (but buy it if you want to! That’s still extremely cool of you)—I need you to show up for your public libraries and your schools!

Photos never do my wildflower patch justice, but I keep trying. I think I’m gonna have to try painting them sometime soon, if it doesn’t get too cold too fast.

I can’t share the newer stuff I’ve been working on for Reasons, so here are some old MG spot illustrations—I love working in black and white. #kidlitartpostcard

I spent the summer reporting this essay on why it seems harder than ever to sell a book right now—especially if it isn't a debut and comes with the dreaded "sales track." I'm grateful to the writers, agents, editors, publishers & experts who spoke to me for this piece: thewalrus.ca/the-publishi...

I see a lot of artists on here questioning whether they should be promoting their work in the current political climate.

The answer is always yes. ART: books, music, film, painting, sculpture - all of it - is the most accessible way to communicate complex topics, ideologies and emotions.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

I made my pink hoodie cooler. I just have to wait for it to dry… (it’s oil based ink so it will take awhile.)

I made a zine! With my own hands! It’s different seeing my art on a page instead of a screen. I like it. Remind me to do this more often. #kidlitartist #zine

I love this addition—the first draft gives you something to work with. But you gotta make it exist first!
if a block of stone (or a pile of shapeless clay) is the material from which sculptors work, it's not the blank page that is our base material, it's the *first draft*.
In case any of my fellow creatives also needed this reminder:

Transferred, carved, and test printed this last night. This is the logo for my drawing class, but people have mentioned liking it for its own sake so I decided it could be its own print. 🤷‍♀️
