Day 16: Vasa Tea

Years ago, the Vasa Museum did a tea-blend based on something they had found aboard the wreck after it was salvaged. I've lost the ingredient list, but it has bergamot in it.

The witch wears 1600s fashion because that's when the ship was built.
A cartoon witch dressed in 1620s fashion. A black cloak with a big collar is draped over her shoulders, and her long dress is red and gold and cream, with embroidered decorations in the shape of flowers and heraldic lions. There is a feather in her hat. In one hand, she holds a sextant, and in the other, a fishing net with an amber-coloured glass float.

the think about this that evangel-AI-sts don't get, and WILL never get, is that the hours or days of creative iteration *is the work*.

that is where the magic happens: that is where you figure out what you want to say, how to say it, what you MEAN by saying it, and what the point of it all is.

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

A neat goose hybrid posted to ‘What’s this Bird?’ but when you zoom in on the photos the bill details have been too manipulated by AI photo editing to be accurately assessed for which species may be involved. Scroll on… A cool-looking Red-tailed Hawk that someone is wondering which subspecies it might be - right up my alley! But when you zoom in on the photos literally every feather group has been so heavily manipulated and altered by AI editing that it’s impossible to determine subspecies because the photo is essentially fake now; just a mashup of whatever AI thinks parts of a Red-tail should look like. Scroll on… WOW! That’s a remarkable trail cam photo of a Bobcat! It almost looks like a painting!… but the head looks oddly small…. hmmmm. After some prodding the original photo is produced and sure enough it had been so heavily altered by AI ‘post processing’ that the photo posted was essentially a digital mock-up with totally different proportions and fur markings. No longer the photo off the trail cam; it may as well have just been ‘created’ by AI from scratch. This stuff is killing me. My days on social media are becoming very limited. We can’t even trust simple, everyday photos of animals to be real. The wildlife community needs to quit editing with AI, and we need to start calling out photographers that are using it. Our reality is being destroyed all around us.

Share your knowledge if/when you can. Teaching other people how to do what you do doesn’t lessen your art - it just means more and better art for everyone.

I appreciate when people are willing to tell me about their brushes, how they study, etc… I want to put that back out into the world.

I don't always trust reviews by strangers, but I sure do trust recommendations by people who know me well.

Something I'd like to address. There's this idea that TQ+ folk are all 21 year-old art students... and all the 'normal' old school folk are LGB and entirely left behind and confused by 'pronouns'...

Every talk I give, know who the most outspoken trans allies are? Queer folk in their 70s!!
