New @dcogc board member @kevinok.bsky.social has filed an important case on behalf of @freedom.press efforts to get ICE to respond to public records requests via #foia.
If ICE is too busy stalking daycare pickups to read their emails from Congress, they should really be thanking Lauren for FOIAing them
Our attorney @kevinok.bsky.social is spot on: “ICE will find hiding from FOIA harder than simply pulling on their balaclavas, which tend to be frowned on in court.”

Many news orgs are "all-in" on AI, fearful of repeating the errors of the early digital era, but what if the real risk lies in handing chunks of our business, our civic function, and our values to a handful of hyperscalers? @alixdunn.com prodded me to think that through with her for @themaybe.org

Absolutely love this. I'll also add Willie has competition at Fort Totten transfer station in DC! Drop off trash, metal scraps, and recycling; pick up compost, and have your day brightened by a warm, funny, and helpful team!
At a time when only 31 percent of us feel engaged at work, we could all learn from Willie Shanks. He earns just $38k running the local dump. But he loves his work and has become a local celebrity for turning the dump into a community hub. Gift link. wapo.st/47L8iE0

Willie Shanks has turned a refuse and recycling center into a place where people come to hang out and laugh, even when they don’t have trash to drop off.

Physician Lauren Hughes was driving when another car T-boned her Subaru, totaling it and breaking her ankle.

Then the bills came: $63,976.35 in total because her insurance deemed her hospital stay not medically necessary.
A car accident sent her to the hospital — and $64,000 into debt
This doctor broke her ankle in a car accident. The hospital kept her overnight, but her insurer stopped paying after she left the emergency room.

DHS deceptively spliced images from different cities and times in videos sowing fear about "chaos" in Chicago and Washington, D.C., a WaPo investigation found.

DHS used footage from years ago, half the country away, or even in international waters, the Post found.

NEW: We just filed a lawsuit alongside 25 states to restore SNAP food assistance during the federal shutdown.

141,000 DC residents rely on SNAP to afford their meals — including 47,000 children and 24,000 seniors.

We will do everything in our power to prevent DC families from going hungry.

Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000
