Government wd hv to come out and say that the whole board has failed, get them all to resign and then push their own people onto a new board, who would then appoint a new DG. You would have to have balls of steel to put up with the attacks from RW media but I think it would be worth it long term.

Feels like a different age when we intended to decarbonise the economy. Not going to happen.
Also rail will be in a bad place in (say) 25 years time, still heavily dependent on diesel - and many of those diesels will be very old.
