Firstly, firing an employee for simply taking sick leave is wrongful termination. Secondly, busy or not, having a contagious person come into work to get the rest of your staff and customers sick is just bad business. Management needs to learn how to be better at their jobs.

Friends, I'm trying to purchase some Arduino kits for my engineering classes. If you're able to either purchase or share, I'd be so appreciative!

Muéranse todos 🎶 muéranse todos 🎶
Si sustituyen el verbo mover por morir en la letra del Tucanazo les queda una bellísima canción sobre locura colectiva y suicidio bailador.

Or these days Paris. By the end of 2025 they're supposed to have 400 km of 2-way bike paths in the city, the air quality has improved, and the Seine is clean enough to swim in.

We are a car-lite household.

We've now lived this way for around 4 years. E-cargo bikes made all the difference and without them, we'd drive a car for everything. Infrastructure plays a huge role in enabling this type of living, but where it falls short, ebikes make up for it.
The affordability of car-light living:

"American households – maybe not most of them, but a significant percentage of them – have the opportunity to dump one of their cars and save a bunch of money."

Urbanists should hammer away at this point, noting how e-bikes/cargo bikes make it easier.
Can We All Live With One Less Car?
It's not something that most people are doing yet. But all of our demographic and economic trends suggest it's way more possible than it used to be.

It's mind boggling that even after a global pandemic, my wife and I find ourselves to be the only masked people when inside a healthcare facility...you know...where sick people tend to congregate.

I have better things to do with my time than unnecessarily become sick.

Which is ironic because there are ways working at BigCo teaches you the *wrong* lessons for working at an Expanding company. I too have noticed the proliferation of "xApple, xFacebook, xGusto, xMechanicalOrchard" declarations.

I've been bedridden for the last 6 months, unable to work as I try to get a surgeon and insurance lined up for my operation to let me work again.
If you could send a couple dollars, it'd really help. Time isn't on my side here, and waiting is very expensive.

It is the reason I spent so much of my teenage years on Wikipedia – as a contributor and maintainer. We were going to save humanity. We were going to make information free. And it would fix everything about us as a species.

But it didn't.

And that is the most crushing thing to live through.

part of the political issue is that popular understanding of mid century america is filtered through nostalgia-drenched popular culture, often through stories told from the perspective of a child or, if not a child, an affluent adult
asterisk because i think we look at that period of stability deeply red rose-colored glasses. when people think prosperity they don’t think “family of six sharing a 1200 sq ft home living largely on canned goods and hand me downs” but that was the reality

Another study concludes that cycling is good for your health.

“… commuter cycling ∼150 min/wk for just 10 weeks can improve cardiorespiratory fitness, resting heart rate, and diastolic blood pressure, all known markers of cardiovascular health.”
