TODAY'S THE DAY! The #OwnOurVenues share offer campaign closes today, and it's your last chance to join us as a co-owner for this phase. Every penny invested goes towards securing venues at risk of disappearing forever.

Earlier this week I spoke to London Centric about the Ringways Map and all things unbuilt London - they’ve dedicated the whole of their latest edition to the story! substack.com/home/post/p-...
Would your home have been under a motorway?
"The most astonishing and destructive thing never to happen to London," says the man who has spent twenty years researching the first true map of the unbuilt Ringways.

Two more iconic grassroots music venues, The Joiners and The Croft, are now OFFICIALLY community owned buildings. Thanks to the herculean efforts of all involved, these institutions are saved - and with that, the opportunities for bands, music fans, and many more are secure for the next generation.

It worries me that the alleged drone sightings over the past week or so are causing European leaders to talk about war, and NATO is mobilizing. Troops are being called up. Almost every indication is that the drone sightings are the same bullshit we saw in New Jersey–there may be *nothing* there. 2/

All journalists should bend the knee to the work of the obituarist, the one discipline which enables the practitioner to get a byline from beyond the grave. Ronald Bergen predeceased his subject Robert Redford by 5 years, but left behind a truly masterful obit.

Record momentum for UK battery storage!

Planning approvals hitting new highs amid a surge in apps for renewables.

100+ battery storage filings April-June 2025: 8.4 GW—double last year. Year to June: 30 GW across ~400 schemes. UK needs 23-27 GW by 2030 (from 6 GW now)—if delivered, we're there.

Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".

Every single mainstream media outlet LIED and LIED and LIED about almost every aspect of the Marks & Spencer non-story.

Organised transphobia is basically a lie machine, it cannot engage in its campaign against trans people’s lives without systematic dishonesty.

One thing I'm kind of finding baffling about the OSA discourse is Americans going "we shouldn't have to follow UK laws?!" when platforms put it in everywhere. Brother, you're gonna flip your shit when you learn how many US laws affect me and how I use the internet here.

Two vital lessons from this story:

✅ never agree to a police interview without legal representation, even if officers claim they are unable to reach a solicitor, and

✅ never accept a caution to secure release, as it's an admission of guilt

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.
