I’ve been interested in political speeches for as long as I can remember. I’ve listened to nearly every inaugural and major address, and I’ve given tons of public speeches myself.

Zohran’s talent in this arena ranks among the best. He’s damn good. Hella good. Remarkably good.

Crazy to watch.

The politics editor at The Hill thinks the general election in New York is ranked choice. Only the primary is ranked choice

How does a politics editor get this wrong?

Not to mention receiving information align with one’s priors.
I think there's an interesting body of research to be done on how people interact with LLMs. One thing that comes to mind: do people view the outputs of LLMs more uncritically or positively if they watch the LLM produce the output (and see the steps it reports taking while they wait)?

complicating this is the fact that generals loyal to Bolsonaro would have acted on his orders to execute on a coup had the CIA not gotten involved

I’m not on the committee (hiding on research leave), but I'm happy to chat / answer questions!

Advice for junior #academicsky job market candidates:

You should apply to all jobs that fit your profile even just a little bit.

Job descriptions are a product of committees and not always very... accurate. My first fly out (and almost first offer) came from an ad with 15+ disciplines listed 😅.

a point I make over and over re: climate change is that there’s no point at which it’s time to throw up your hands and give up, because each tenth of a degree you can prevent is worth it

2C is better than 2.1C is better than 2.2C and so on and so forth
New from me: An exclusive interview with David Suzuki, who talked about reaching the conclusion that humanity has failed in the fight against climate change, and why communities should start preparing for more destructive natural disasters #cdnpoli #cdnenviro

At these spots, pricing is usually more affordable — not because the culinary richness isn’t worth it, but partly because of the lower rent and partly because many of these restaurants serve their communities.
