One of my earliest memories, from when I was 4 years old, is when I had measles.

I still vividly remember the high fever and the nightmares I had, of my toys becoming life size and chasing me while I got slower and slower because I couldn't breathe.

This week is your last chance to watch (or rewatch) She-Ra and the Princesses of Power before Netflix deletes it on 20th Feb.

One of my favourite shows - animated or otherwise - of the last ten years.

This was due to it being state policy at the time to punish unmarried young mothers with the same drug which was used to chemically castrate Alan Turing. It is scary how few people know about this. heatherburns.tech/2026/02/02/t...

Since curling is on in the Olympics, here's an absolutely wonderful documentary on how the stones are made.

Since the #Olympics are on, let's repost a classic thread here: a brief history of the practice of "sex verification" in sport.

Content warning: This thread will mention anti-intersex discrimination, FGM practices and body shaming.

Age verification has little to do with age, much more with collecting identity information. As always, it's about surveillance.

AI is what happens when you teach children to dislike learning.

The banning of social media for kids comes from the same mindset that thinks refugees should not have phones. It comes from small minded and vindictive people, who require others to suffer, in order to feel superior.

During Covid, air pollution dropped — but methane levels rose.
Now we know why: a temporary spike in atmospheric methane driven by both atmospheric chemistry and climate‑related natural emissions.

As usual, men are displaying weaponized incompetence, in this case in displaying a supposed inability to understand the difference between individual women wanting to avoid men and having personal animosity toward them with structural oppression and dehumanization of women by men.

It should be relatively clear by now, why Franz Kafka wrote the stories that he did. They surely no longer seem as outlandish as they maybe did just 20 years ago.

Oh goody, a new era of nuclear arms race coming up.

"Today marks the final day of the last remaining nuclear arms control agreement between the United States and Russia. It is the end of an era that began in 1969, when Moscow and Washington D.C. first launched the SALT I negotiations."

Absolutely fascinating (and rather concerning): just spoke to some classic educated German middle class boomers - the ones who still read the newspaper and listen to public broadcast radio - and they had NEVER HEARD THAT AI HALLUCINATES!!
Like, they didn’t even know the concept 🤯

Both 'Anglo Saxon' and 'Judeo Christian' are pretty consistent indicators, that any topic they get used in, is a white christian supremacist one.
Going through some 1930s era folk music news clippings & Im always amazed at how much the term “Anglo Saxon” is used. I know it was used in eugenics language/legislation, but I really feel like weve largely forgotten its role in creating the language for early 20 century white supremacist movements.

Honest to god, I am so sick and tired of streaming services not telling you upfront what language a film will be in (or what languages the subtitles may be). I want to know if it's dubbed or not, in order to not fly into a rage when hearing weird unexpected voices
