Magpie family! The mother is Kermie, a long-time visitor who is blind in her left eye. She came to say hello, while her partner pushed their baby into the water to make it bathe.

It is light brown, orange, and cream-coloured, with four forward-facing eyes pointing directly at the camera. It has drawn its legs together so they frame its cephalothorax. I found a Screaming Tree Frog in the garden tonight.

Baby Satin Bowerbird (and its mother)!

I took my very first photos of an Australian Hobby yesterday!
It was circling high above our garden (*very* high, hence the poor quality of the photos). The parrots kept a watchful eye on it but seemed largely unperturbed.

I spotted the first baby King Parrot of this breeding season yesterday!

Photograph of a large weevil on the edge of a broad leaf (NZ flax), with the author's index finger included for scale. The weevil is - from tail to antennae - twice the length of the fingernail. Marco photograph showing the weevil in more detail. It is a creamy colour with mottled light brown and patches/rivers of glossy black. Its snout is relatively broad and short. Macro photograph, same subject, framing just the face for high detail. Individual fur-like scales can be discerned, especially on the snout and around the eyes, and it's obvious now that the black marks are actually the weevil's shell. Its eye is avoid and narrow, with individual facts discernible.
