I'm really curious to what extent this is a function of individualized identity formation. I get the sense identity is now less tied to what you do for work, which was an essential part of unions and working class organization and engagement.
This is the whole thing right here. All these tired fights about whether Dems should moderate are ways of dancing around the real problem, which is the that political parties no longer have any mass constituency.
In many countries, (esp. white, male) workers increasingly vote for radical right parties. Still, a sole focus on right-wing ideology only captures a narrow part of working class consciousness. Most workers, including many right-wing voters, are politically demobilized and distant from all politics.

Coming more around to a theory I’ve had for a while that the rural, broadly, need to Search Their Feelings in that they know, down deep, that it sucks.

Why can’t urban people criticize rural people? Bc it’s interpreted as punching down. Why is it punching down, exactly? We know why. They know why.
Everybody knows the iron rule in America is you can't criticize the rurals but the rurals can criticize you. You can live in the overdose capital of the country and shit on everywhere else but God forbid I don't think that's a good place to raise children and they melt down.

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.
NEWS:

Democratic mega-donors are debating plans to spend tens of millions of dollars on a range of influencer plans to "find the liberal Rogan."

We've got pitch decks, investor meetings, and internal docs.

One Democrat has a spreadsheet of 26 different proposals.

This is gonna sound… idk, I’m just gonna say it

A way I find helpful to have courage is to enjoy danger as much as you can

If you think the current political situation is dangerous, which, like, it is? Instead of dooming, act like you’re… idk, skydiving. Doing MMA w/minimal armor. Idk.

i hope it's not too melodramatic to say but rising wages in the bottom quartile being as unpopular as it was has disabused me of the idea that anything good can ever happen in american politics. things will just kind of suck in a lot of the same ways they always have until i die.

Reactionaries are *obsessed* with the idea that the point of discussing racism is to make them feel “white guilt,” which would be both stupid and pointless, and is an almost comically narcissistic way of reacting to injustice.
If Elon Musk wasn't the world's richest person and didn't own car and space companies, the headlines today would be that Trump is being interviewed by a white supremacist.

It's worth noting the conditions under which the best parts of the Constitution--the Reconstruction Amendments--were ratified.
The Constitution as anything but a source of conservative electoral and legislative power is in hospice care. It is time to think seriously about what should come next and make a case for that vision to the American people. If we don't, we're finished.
