The slur was “American Indian,” and I did not even refer to anyone with the term. They searched my post history and found nine-month old tweets in which I alternated between “Native American” and “Indian” when referring to tribes that had negotiated treaties with the early American republic.

Chuck is thankfully not the leader of the Democratic Party. I take this post as part of a negotiating strategy to win a DHS shutdown. “Abolish ICE” will not win a shutdown from the minority party. “Measures reforms” might. Let’s leave it up to the 2028 primary to find out real leaders.

At the risk of being a hammer to which everything is a nail, social media has destroyed the brains of millions of well meaning people, including many many people on the left. They’re just as brain poisoned as the archetypal MAGA uncle scrolling Facebook. This whole discourse is an example.
I’m feeling exasperated by the currently ongoing effort by radicals and activists - the vast majority who do not live anywhere close to here and care little about the place - to hijack our crisis and turn it into some kind of opportunity for themselves. Stop doing this.

This place is more toxic than usual lately and it’s bumming me out. I think we would all do better if we logged off and did some self-reflection about how social media, for all its uses as a communications channel, can also distract us from doing the things that are important to us and society.
