Yes, it's me. Children's Librarian with the rock music obsession. Mom of teens. Writer of at this point mostly fanfic but formerly of GeekMom and maybe someday of original fic. Much AuDHD. She/her.
See, when you have a therapist to help you deal with your ADHD, they're very understanding when you suddenly blank out and stop listening because a bird landed in the tree outside.

NOOOOO I switched my card back to my local library and now I've lost my Freegal access!!!!

--this has been a psa for checking to see if your library subscribes to Freegal because it is the BEST. You get FREE MUSIC. If you are more fortunate than I, please take advantage of it.

I am technically allergic to cats. I have two cats. One of them even sleeps on me. I don't usually have much of a problem with them. But I just thoroughly tidied & vacuumed the corner where they most like to shed, and now I can't stop sneezing, only proving that cleaning is hazardous to ones health.

I came to the 'Atom Heart Mother' album late as a Floyd fan because they claimed it was their worst album, but dangit, I love the song "Summer'68," every time it's come on my computer since I got it I've gone "What IS this lovely thing? Oh, that's right, I said that last time I heard it, too."

Not sure if anyone's here who isn't already other places, but: here, read this personal essay I wrote about my current midlife crisis. I'm in a bit of a state and it's kind of huge for me, so I'd like you to know about it: rockinlibrarian.dreamwidth.org/295557.html

Anyone have a way to make me laugh? I'm feeling very melancholy and could use even a little bit of lifeline.

I offered to write “Happy 7th Birthday” in the speech balloon, but my daughter said that didn’t make sense.

She had a very specific vision, which was for me to render this Squirrel Girl panel in buttercream so she could eat Hippo the Hippo’s face.

Darling, EVERYTHING is a cry for help. We are all lost in the wilderness and the ONLY thing any of us can do is keep reaching for each other across the darkness

Repost w/ the five shows you would be happy to rewatch over and over again for the rest of your life, as your sole TV diet.

The Good Place, Legion, Freaks and Geeks
...that's when I have to start thinking harder
um, maybe the X-Files, and I'll go with Agents of SHIELD over Agent Carter, more of it.
Psych, Parks & Rec, Poirot, Frasier, DS9

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (surprise of the year, I'm sure)
Pushing Daisies
the OG Twilight Zone
Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul (same universe, deal with it)
Rockford Files

OMG this. Authors are a group of people in which imposter syndrome runs rampant, creating work without a performance element so without immediate feedback from the audience, often with no idea how our work is faring, no control over it, often with out of date sales data. Prime brain weasels fodder.
Yesterday alone I, a person who writes books for a living, emailed two writers (one a friend, one more of an acquaintance) to tell them how much I'd liked their books.

One of them said I had *no idea* how much they'd needed to hear that right now.

It really makes a difference. 💗
I've met people who think telling fellow authors you're a fan is weird or cringe or fanboy-ish or whatever. I give zero fucks. I love books. I'm a fan of great writers. I've reached out to half a dozen just this week to say I loved something they wrote.

I was recently accused me of lying when I said I've never used AI. It's not that hard to do. Why on earth would I use a flawed, polluting, external brain when mine's perfectly fine? If my fridge is working, I'm not going to move my food out of it and into a wood crate in the yard.

GOOD NEWS! Moderna’s combination COVID/influenza vaccine candidate mRNA-1083 has OUTPERFORMED the current standalone vaccines for BOTH viruses in a large (8000+) Phase III trial. A combination vaccine would make it easier for people to get vaccinated against COVID and influenza at the same time. 🧪🧵⬇️

No kidding, read it. As a raised Progressive Catholic who stopped "practicing" for the very heretical creep reasons explained here-- this really was exhilarating and so HOPEFUL.

I'm still a believer. Just not in the Church Vance et al keep trying to make happen.

Go Leo.
Very likely most people who follow me have already seen this massive, exhilarating, and brilliant thread from @rahaeli, but if you haven’t, do check it out.

And if you haven’t read it all the way to its end, it’s worth going back and doing that.
Pope Leo's first sermon and, uh, his using the phrase "be ever more fully a city set upon a hill" and cf'ing it to Rev 21:10 instead of any of the others before saying "many baptized Christians" are "living in a state of practical atheism" is. Well. Shots fired!
