they are able to peel back the ACA because its a shitty half measure but if we had gotten real universal healthcare instead no one would dare touch it because literally everybody on all sides would flip out. one more reason why Democratic incrementalism and "pragmatism" is fucking stupid !!!!!

what we need in PDX is a visionary mayor and council who can compel a systemic pivot across agencies to speed this climate adaptation work up rather than slow it down, to operate from a place of courage rather than risk aversion, and to invest in a unionized city green jobs workforce

I've never watched one of these Tesla Grok videos. Why would someone want this, let alone pay for it? "Football is gay b-t-w," actual words the voice bot emits.
but without a trillion dollars for Elon, Teslas might never ask your underage children for nudes!

I don't think there's anything wrong with talking about the state of the housing market as a "market failure" but if you are a skeptical of well functioning markets, as many of us are, here's an alternative: the housing market is working as designed, and we should design it to work differently

if you went back to these 20th century planners and told them their policies have produced a city that's only affordable to high income homeowners they wouldn't respond "oh no, we've distorted market outcomes through overregulation!" they'd understand that their zoning policy was working as expected

Last weekend I was biking and a group of teen girls screaming and laughing ran right into the street in front of my bike. I was able to stop because I was going 16 mph on a bike and wasn’t distracted. A lot of kids are going to be acting like those teens today - if you can, please avoid driving.

I can accept that Mayor Wilson feels he has a public mandate to enforce a camping ban, even if I think it’s a waste of money.
But it’d just be madness for the city to lose sight of a long-term vision for housing everyone, which has been Hisserich’s main focus

Shake-up at the Portland Housing Bureau: Mayor Wilson put director Helmi Hisserich, an "unparalleled expert" on social housing, on leave with little explanation Thursday. She has been in the role since early 2024.

In 2004 I had a big argument with my boss who insisted GWB was Pro Choice and Kerry was against legal abortion (pre smartphone so not easy to disprove). It was eye opening and the lesson stuck with me.

Counterpoint: We should recognize anyone who gets their kid to school via bike is overcoming a system designed to prevent it, and support them, and our disapproval should be focused on those who make the choice to drive.
I still think bike buses do more harm than good because of how they reinforce stereotypes about biking being an elite activity. In communities like the Seattle neighborhood I live in with big wealth and racial disparities it's only kids...

Rain storms wash those tire shards into streams and ultimately into lakes and oceans. That’s bad news for fish and other aquatic life.

Please keep an eye out for a big Tern pannier, stem can, kids back pack, and other junk, in trashcan near 34th and Hawthorne. It'll be expensive to replace everything stolen but I have my baby back at least.
