The problem likely "is actually" both of these things. Consider whether it's constructive to gate keep ways to make democracy better. Especially ones like term/age limits that are way easier to fix than money in politics.

I do give any commodity producer a lot of grace when they try to move into value added products. It really isn't fair that they make so little margin.

Lol, they started making cheese and I guess butter, but the cheese at least was so awful. I wonder if they stopped. The milk is good though!

May be easier to churn your own from Gary's (if this was not a one time bulk buy). If you drink milk, you could use the milk for skim and make butter from the cream.

what we need in PDX is a visionary mayor and council who can compel a systemic pivot across agencies to speed this climate adaptation work up rather than slow it down, to operate from a place of courage rather than risk aversion, and to invest in a unionized city green jobs workforce

The Biden infrastructure law (Bipartisan Infrastructure Program or something like that? I don't remember what the final acronym was)
Lots of good stuff, but also lots of highway money

We drove to Wyoming in 2024 and it was widening after widening, some massive new interchanges in towns of a few thousand. I suspect it was BIP money

Right in front of my house on Sunday a cat was killed by a person with their car and the driver didn't even stop.

Again, these are not hypotheticals. You can look up this stuff. People spent a much higher share of income on food. Yes they valued quality a lot, probably more than us.

The fact that Hawthorne isn't one lane each way is an utter failure and @pbotinfo.bsky.social should be embarrassed and liable.

It would compare horribly. This is not some big mystery or hypothetical, the demise of the modern food system is extensively documented. Bread 100 years ago would count as a whole food, wonderbread is basically candy (tons of additives, ultra processed, metabolized as sugar)

if you went back to these 20th century planners and told them their policies have produced a city that's only affordable to high income homeowners they wouldn't respond "oh no, we've distorted market outcomes through overregulation!" they'd understand that their zoning policy was working as expected
