Been a bit since I dropped in here, but life is... busy. We had a lot of company over the holidays and the family's school/work schedule got kind of out of balance. We're getting re-centered and ready to take on 2026!

Great, now Udemy is being enshittified by AI-powered interests. This has zero benefit for the users at all.

World is ending, but gold now!
it’s a genuine societal catastrophy that gambling apps report on news and can influence their audiences to spend and lose money like this

I absolutely LOATHE this self-perpetuating "logic":

"Does AI make us more productive?"
"No."
"Does AI make us more happy?"
"No."
"Does AI do anything well?"
"No."
"Is AI making us money?"
"No."
"Why are we using AI then?"
"IT'S INEVITABLE! D:<"

I don't think I am going to buy a smart watch again. I am so tired of this thing buzzing for my attention non-stop even for apps I have clearly turned off push notifications for.

Been a minute since I updated this. I bought new(er) parts for my PC. Memory spiked right when I was looking to build an AM5 setup, but was quickly deterred by almost $1k price tags on 64GB kits. I decided to upgrade the CPU to a 5800XT, upgrade my board from the B550-I (mITX) to the B550-F (ATX).

If I could have a single day where a disk or file system issue doesn’t plague my life that would be great. This in particular is a dirty journal for an external drive using ext4 on Linux Mint. Machine is an iMac18,3.

This might be my favorite JWST image from the nearby Universe so far. You’re seeing the late stages of evolution of a star like the Sun, after it’s exhausted its nuclear fuel. This is a transient phase where it’s ejected its outer gas layers, which are then irradiated by the hot stellar remnant.
Another STUNNING image from JWST, this time of the Red Spider Nebula—the vast, wispy, gaseous remains of a now-dead star, the white dwarf core still glowing in the centre.

I'd suspect this has more to do with grooming teenagers and young men to "craft them into men". It's more common than you would think. Some break out of it. Some can't because they lean heavily on their family and don't want to lose that support system.
i actually don’t think the “average” american millennial man had a nazi phase. it’s not some boys will be boys shit. this makes me side eye you and your friend group, sounds like a personal problem

Ron Deibert is absolutely the voice that the infosec industry needs to be listening to right now. We are in a moment where fascism is consolidating power and most of the infosec industry is either playing along or is busy bragging about how much AI they've shoved into their products.
