How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

Ok just for fun what’s the most deeply WMATA station in the system? I think Forest Glen is a strong contender, but Wheaton might take the cake—also made entirely out of concrete, longest escalator in the western hemisphere, all to serve a mall and (at the time) a small suburban downtown
Since the meeting is way out near the beltway I got to take the red line to Forest Glen. Of all the stations in the system Forest Glen might be the most deeply WMATA—a genuine engineering marvel built entirely out of concrete, all to serve some medium density garden apartments, SFHs, and a P and R

Hello! I am back in the community meeting saddle after a stretch of heavy work and a lull in local meetings. Tonight’s meeting is the University Boulevard PSAP.

whatever you think of Spanberger, the fact that her opponent ran a campaign based almost entirely on transphobia and is on track to eat shit in the biggest blowout the state has seen since 2009 is unambiguously a huge win
Earle-Sears ran what felt like 12 billion ads about how much she hated trans kids and I didn’t hear a single pundit say she should stick to real issues that affect real people.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Abigail Spanberger wins Virginia governor’s race.

DC needs a better answer for teenagers than saying they can never legally go outside after 8pm again
NEWS: The D.C. Council has approved a three-month extension of the expanded juvenile curfew that was in place during the summer. It applies to more kids and lets MPD designate temporary areas where the curfew is 8 p.m. (Standard curfew time is 11 p.m.)

The crowds on 18th street today are as huge as any festival I've ever been to in DC. Perhaps we should consider closing 18th street to cars more regularly! Certainly seems good for business.

The 2400 block of 18th street is the easiest and most obvious candidate for pedestrianization in the city (if not the region) and so naturally Bowser and DDOT are *checks notes* removing a wildly successful streetery pilot and replacing it with parking and 2 18 foot traffic lanes.

Exciting! Some good stuff in here and it’s good to see bus priority projects moving forward after DC’s budget issues and DDOTs waffling on safe streets and bus lanes. Option 2 seems best to me from a transit perspective but all options have good improvements for all modes
DDOT's concept development presentation is out, for the Mt. Pleasant–Columbia Heights bus priority project. The agency's proposing a roundabout at the lunatic intersection of Harvard, Argonne, and "Little Harvard"!

Tonight Baltimore City Council took a step toward increased housing flexibility and choice and decreased housing costs by passing on second reader parking minimum repeals and updated bulk and yard standards, as well as sending single stair reform to the mayor for signature.

Oh hey Fairfax City system is re-structuring its (pretty good) CUE bus system. Frequencies going from 33 mins to 20 mins at peak and 60 to 30 mins off peak

Man @ggwash.org’s coverage of DC ‘s bus shelters is great—it really highlights how arcane agreements and underfunding shape a very basic piece of infrastructure.
A way forward for DC’s bus shelters
DDOT’s vision for bus shelters is an improvement from the status quo, but it should do more for riders.

I think about this a lot when I see media coverage that treats the arguments of anti-bike folks as good faith and logical. They are not. They are just angry people lashing out at bikes from whichever direction seems most convenient.

Oh wow up until a few days ago I thought this was a slam dunk. Small win for the climate.
The DC area’s metropolitan planning org, @mwcog.bsky.social, has voted to NOT include an 11-mile extension of Virginia’s Beltway express lanes from the Springfield interchange across into Maryland.
Now maybe we could use the funds for a Metro extension to National Harbor? ggwash.org/view/100550/...

1/2 This 1928 building originally housed Raphael's, a 2 story 450 seat restaurant of such excess that it could only have been built in the 1920s. You entered through a space meant to mimic an outdoor garden, complete with trees & fountains. At night, colored spotlights bounced off the 60 ft minaret.
