Transportation without representation.

The joys and pains of biking in DC and beyond.
Not lost on me that they probably came up with the name first and then figured out which city to invade based off that

Monday, Thursday, Friday.

Goodbye, space for a dozen people to eat.

Hello, two more free long term parking spaces

best of luck to @cmcharlesallen.bsky.social on his re-election campaign -- the best sustainable transit advocate on the council.
A little 2026 news: @cmcharlesallen.bsky.social has filed to run for reelection in Ward 6.

There was some speculation he'd pursue a bid for higher office next year, but that fizzled recently. Now he'll make a try for a fourth term.

The Tail Up Goat outdoor dining space is now completely gone, and two cars are parked where it used to be. this will probably be the status quo for the foreseeable future because DC officials struggle to think of any other uses for curb space besides private car parking. It's a real shame.
The Tail Up Goat street dining structure is being taken down this morning. The space will probably revert back to two long term, free parking spaces.

The same will likely be happening all up and down 18th Street in the coming months (though there it will become metered parking)

i wonder if any democratic socialists in DC politics who are thinking about a run for mayor are looking at tonight's results and maybe it's pushing them to go for it

Anyone know offhand what the record is for most innings in a world series?

The crowds on 18th street today are as huge as any festival I've ever been to in DC. Perhaps we should consider closing 18th street to cars more regularly! Certainly seems good for business.

Good news and an important step. Remember, of course, that this is the compromise position -- the more effective way to handle it would simply be to not let someone drive at all for a few years if they are convicted of reckless driving
Interesting: Any driver convicted of aggravated reckless driving or going more than 20 mph over the speed limit in D.C. can now be required to install an Intelligent Speed Assistance Program – basically, a tool that prevents them from going more than 5 mph over the limit.

me earlier this morning, after the brooke pinto delegate announcement: "I hope Jack Evans never runs for the ward 2 council seat ever again!"

[monkey paw index finger begins to curl ...]
well this is how I found out JACK EVANS is thinking about running for Council Chair 🫠 #SackJack #SackJack2

If all the space in Adams Morgan currently dedicated to tables and dining goes back to being car parking, it will be a huge loss to the neighborhood. That land is of far greater benefit to the community as is rather than as car storage. wtop.com/dc/2025/09/t...

Nate Fleming is running for at-large council and his transportation qualifications include bragging about making it easier for bad drivers to stay on the road, so it's going to be pretty tough for him to earn my vote.

I don't know what @mayorbowser.bsky.social's plan is to "build trust" between DC residents and masked ice agents but I can tell you it's not going to work
Bowser said there have been parts of the federal surge that have worked: More police and gun stops, more accountability for people committing crimes.

Not working: Must build more trust between federal partners and community, masked ICE agents, National Guard from other states.

If the wallet inspectors are really concerned with the quality and workmanship of the wallet I just handed them, they should make that plain.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser just reacted to the growing deployment of ICE officers as part of the federal police surge into D.C. "The focus should be on violent crime," she said of the surge. "If this is really about immigration enforcement, I think the administration should make that plain."

I didn't bring my family to DC, because they already live here, because it's an amazing city and a great place to live and raise a family

the only solution is statehood for DC. Spread the word.
August 11, 2025 at 3:49 PM
since the topic of DC statehood is once more on my mind, one small but important thing I think we need to do is change the DC license plates to be way more obvious in their message.
August 11, 2025 at 2:50 AM
Two 16-20 mph speeding tickets in the last few months plus blocking a bus zone. Seen parked last night in the 15th Street bike lane. And note the illegal rear plate cover! Who knows how many more tickets this person has evaded thanks to blocking their license plate.

Finally, it IS theoretically possible for Congress to abolish our local government and let Trump rule by fiat. The only solution to this injustice is DC statehood. If you think it is wrong to allow the President to have dictatorial power over DC, we need you to join the fight for DC statehood

Does anyone know if Friday's DC Council vote on the NFL stadium deal needs to pass with a simple majority or a super majority? Is it being pushed as emergency legislation?

What a day at the Wilson building -- with mixed results. I'm sorry that the Council didn't move forward with funding semi-open primaries, but huge appreciation to @cmbrookepinto.bsky.social for introducing the amendment on it.

This fails on a 7-5 vote. So that means RCV funding survives, without any additional study/delay.
So much for that! Felder is bringing it back at the last minute.
Felder just withdrew this amendment, saying he'd work with the Board of Elections on this issue instead. Sure seems like he couldn't find the votes necessary to pass it...
