Transportation without representation.

The joys and pains of biking in DC and beyond.
December 3 update: All the concrete barriers are now gone and crews have started removing the streateries themselves. New "paid parking here" signs are going up as well.

As a reminder, DDOT director Sharon Kershbaum promised last month that this wouldn't happen until January at the earliest.

Adams Morgan streatery update: As far as I can tell no more concrete barriers were removed today (as of about 9:30pm) but new signs have gone up indicated that metered parking is going to be allowed soon. I can confirm that both of these signs are new.

Adams Morgan streatery update -- about 2/3 of the concrete barriers have been removed, starting from the southern end of the corridor. No doubt the rest will be removed tonight.

Relatedly, the Council is voting *today* on emergency legislation to try to save the streateries.

DDOT is removing the concrete barriers around Adams Morgan streateries TONIGHT. Right now. Next they'll remove the streateries themselves.

As a reminder, just a few weeks ago, DDOT director Sharon Kershbaum promised that they wouldn't start removing them until January 2026.

Goodbye, space for a dozen people to eat.

Hello, two more free long term parking spaces

Control of the entire US House came down to under 7,500 votes, total, across three districts

The crowds on 18th street today are as huge as any festival I've ever been to in DC. Perhaps we should consider closing 18th street to cars more regularly! Certainly seems good for business.

3 tickets, two for speeding (in Palisades) and one for parking (in Crestview, interestingly enough right in front of the Russian orthodox church although I have no idea what the church's politics are).

Repeatedly referring to your plans for Ward 7 (a seat you ran for in a prior election) when you are currently running for at-large is also a sign of unprofessionalism.

Nate Fleming is running for at-large council and his transportation qualifications include bragging about making it easier for bad drivers to stay on the road, so it's going to be pretty tough for him to earn my vote.

My favorite example of what I call "DC police bingo"

Two 16-20 mph speeding tickets in the last few months plus blocking a bus zone. Seen parked last night in the 15th Street bike lane. And note the illegal rear plate cover! Who knows how many more tickets this person has evaded thanks to blocking their license plate.

I can tell you that in addition to the 20 tickets ($4,030, mostly speeding) that this driver has earned in the last year, they also have a serious anger management problem

I looked up my voter registration info (apps.dcboe.org/VRS/Home/Sea...) and it also lists all the people who currently represent me in various levels of government. All good except that they have old info for our US Senators and @ankitjaindc.bsky.social is not listed there even though he should be!!

With more votes behind counted, the Ward 8 special election just gets closer and closer, and becomes a better and better example of why DC made the right call to switch to Ranked Choice Voting next year

Uhhhh l'll just say it's a damn good thing we're getting Ranked Choice Voting next year

Saw this car on the bed of a tow truck today, though I can't be sure if it was being towed because of all these tickets. It had some dents in the side so it's possible the towing was a result of unrelated damage.

Saw a car today that sped up like crazy to ran through an intersection just after the light turned red. It was immediately stuck behind several cars at the next red light and I easily caught up with it on my bike and noted its license plate number

Rare chance to visit the inside of the Smithsonian Arts and Industries building! Some areas are set up as part of the folklife festival -- always worth checking out, but especially so since this building has been mostly closed to the public for 20 years

@mrose.ink just want to make sure you know that this year's Smithsonian folklife festival includes a children's puppet show about copyright law --
