Arsenal were
- league runners up 3 seasons in a row between 1999 & 2001
- FA Cup semi-finalists in 1999 & runners up in 2001
- knocked out of all 3 cup competitions in 2000 on penalties
- lost UEFA Cup final in 2000.

They then won 2 PL titles & 3 FA Cups in the next 4 seasons.

We go again!

Nerves showed for 10 minutes and Ruiz fucking lashes one in.

Fine margins. This is a great effort from a gutsy team.

Set some time aside. Read Billy’s work.
🔥 My new Arsenal tactical long-read is up.

I looked at why Arsenal thrived against PSV and struggled in familiar ways against Manchester United, beyond the obvious. Specifically: the differences in attacking back-fours and back-fives, how to create space — and what can be done next.

There are absolutely ways this season could end in a disappointing manner, but to be here in the PL with Saka/Ø at about 59% playing time, EVERY OTHER INJURY, and as third CL seed, giving any consideration at all to Arteta leaving is an idea I just can’t fathom in the least

Please RT: I was run over by a taxi on the north junction of London Bridge (in front of the Wolseley City) around 5.45pm this evening. Knocked off my bike.

There were a lot of witnesses. If you saw it, please get in touch.

That's a proper puff-your-chest-out and beat it victory. Huge effort from every player on the pitch when the circumstances were against them ... AGAIN.

I didn't know where or how we would find the energy - but we did - and that's a huge moment for this group. Unbelievable resolve and mentality.

It’s frustrating to be an Arsenal supporter right now, but I keep coming back to 3 things, of which I’m pretty certain: (1) MA is one of the best coaches in the world, (2) the players are clearly still bought in, (3) health permitting, this team will be better, man-for-man, next year.

Weird sports comparison: MLS reminds of a younger Sidney Crosby. Elite balance and lower body strength.

I find the rush to declare Arteta a "fraud" and write Arsenal off a bit ridiculous

He restored them from a basketcase to a serious outfit

An issue now is final moves to make up the gap, and there have been errors, that I go into below, but they're close

Great article- I am a very frustrated arsenal fan at the moment but this is exactly what was needed to said. Football is shitty at times- injuries, recruitment issues, bad luck and variance all happen. Many places to look before MA.

I’d much rather be very good and stumble frustratingly than be mediocre and luck into some happy moments.

Right now, unfortunately, we are being really bad at being very good.
