Really like this idea. Get him in the right sided 8 and let him combine with Saka and Timber.

Brilliant, brilliant work

Really interested to see our intensity level after halftime. Really no issues with what I saw there, but I feel like we always try to manage the early part of the second half in games where we are dominant (to our obvious disadvantage). Even with Ode out, we have plenty still on the bench.

This exactly. Finishing/final action wasn’t always great. But we did what we wanted in the first half, and when the second half was a little flat, we brought on Rice, Saka, and Eze against a tired opponent. Gonna be a lot more 2.7-0.5 xg games for us.

I, for one, hope to see Newcastle continue the exact form from today into all future fixtures against Arsenal.

Yeah, plenty of time and plenty of impact players on the bench. Think we need to see Arteta be more proactive with his subs than in the Lpool match.

Really feels like we ceded a lot of creativity and athleticism, which has played into their hands.

It’s the timing that really surprises me. You have to have this figured out a week ago - if Guehi isn’t happening, you get your backup plan in place. I’m not even thinking about what happens if you get an injury, but with no rotation option, how do you compete effectively in both PL and UCL?

Or both…

Had the same thought earlier. Total sliding doors moment.

Was thinking the same thing. He didn’t look 100% in preseason either.

Tbf, they’ve done the same thing with several other players - Zubi, Maduekr, Olivia Smith, Chloe Kelly, Rice last year after the Madrid match.

I have a feeling that they’re going to think they can get by rotating White and Timber in at RCB when needed with Partey/Rice as emergency cover (which really worries me).

Steven Gerrard?

If we lost Saliba, I’d take the titles. However, think losing Saka during his prime could only result from catastrophic squad management. Irreplaceable within our budget and holds a position where he should be our highest paid player, regardless of who we bring in.

Never seen an Arsenal team play like this - clearly with nothing left but still giving every ounce out there. Makes me really hopeful for what a healthy (and deeper) squad might be able to do.

Not to butt in on this thread, but if you want to take it off very cleanly, search for how to use VLR to remove it. Lots of online tutorials on using VLR on soccer jerseys (usually to remove namesets) and if done right, it will come right off.

Totally agree and don’t think this is a slight on him (or White). Plenty of games to go around, and I’d be more than happy if the only nailed-on starters were the guys who are also top 5 at their position in the world (Saka, Rice, Saliba+Big Gabby, hopefully Ø).
