Been listening to a lot of 70s African rock and it’s depressing how many band bios read something like “formed during the commodity boom in their hometown, they later fell out of favour after the US/Soviet backed coup brought a military dictatorship to power”

Bought a vintage fountain pen the other day because I liked the idea of it.

Then I opened a drawer and remembered I'd bought one 4 years ago which I'd never used, also because I liked the idea of it.

How we do pensions and retirement income in this country is predicated on a few assumptions, one of which is that old people have minimal housing costs and/or security of tenure. It's not happening anymore, and will get worse.

Am bidding for something in a non-eBay auction (i.e. - they have an actual auctioneer with a hammer). For some reason this makes me feel like a proper grown-up.

CONFIRMED: the gold snot covering the Oval Office is $58-apiece onlays from Home Depot that have been spraypainted.

When Laura Ingraham confronted Trump about this in the Oval—specifically and correctly noting that the tacky garbage was from Home Depot—he lied to her face and insisted it wasn't.

Norway finds out that its electric busses - produced by a Chinese firm - can be remotely controlled from China!

The good news of this is that the Norwegians realised this because they did a cybersecurity test. We need to think about, and test, stuff like this more.
