Yep, can confirm. Atypical HUS triggered by influenza, rhabdo triggered by influenza, AKI triggered by influenza, and just plain influenza that makes your kid feel like they got run over by a truck and can’t breathe.
We have admitted a ton of kids in the past two weeks, even a baby just a few days old. The ED is swamped. Very few had gotten the vaccine. While not perfect, it is extremely safe and helps reduce severity of illness.
So far this season, there have been at least 4.6 million illnesses from the flu in the U.S., causing more than 49,000 hospitalizations and 1,900 deaths.

13 years ago, I cried when I heard about Sandy Hook because my baby was the same age and I couldn’t bear it. Last night I cried again because my baby’s in college studying for finals just like those kids and we don’t have to live this way.
