🚨BIG changes happening -- ICE leadership is being purged tonight. The old guard, which prioritized targeted enforcement operations aimed at people with criminal records, is being replaced with Border Patrol and Gregory Bovino's "Midway Blitz" style.

Think things are bad now? It'll get worse.

New research by Korbel Prof @rgalemba.bsky.social examines how long-term residents along the Mexico–Guatemala border have perceived Central American migrants and refugees over time. These evolving perceptions highlight how 'transit spaces' challenge assumptions about territory and belonging.
The Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology | Wiley Online Library
Scholars have attuned to the challenges Central American migrants face along increasingly perilous northward journeys. However, most studies of “transit spaces” are relatively migrant-centric, focusi...

Good explainer from @chloeneast.bsky.social
I just wrote a much longer explainer on the policy here: bsky.app/profile/chlo...

Glad it's useful!
Let's talk about the history and present of Temporary Protected Status (TPS). It was introduced in the 90s as part of the Immigration Act of 1990 -- the last time Congress did a major reform of immigration.

A very important reminder. ICE can't go inside a house without the permission of someone there. Administrative warrants are not judicial warrants.
Just FYI, administrative warrants (like the ones used by ICE) are not judicial warrants (used by cops, signed by a judge).

You do NOT legally have to open the door for an ICE officer with an administrative warrant *no matter what the ICE officer says.*

Immigration surged under Biden, but @rgalemba.bsky.social & Lisa Martinez highlight key context: increased border patrol agents and accounting methods that may inflate the numbers.

Kelley Manley, 5280 Magazine:
Did Mayor Mike Johnston’s Actions During Denver’s Immigration Crisis Live up to His (Fighting) Words With Trump?
Mike Johnston says Denver is a model when it comes to immigration. His critics, however, say there’s nothing novel about his administration’s response to the crisis.
