If an editor ever approaches Dan Brown and says, “From now on, you are not allowed to use an ellipse, in any of your novels,” how would Dan Brown process this information? Would his mouth get dry? Would his hands begin to sweat?

Quick Album Review: “Magical Mystery Tour” by ur mom—As an album, it’s not the most cohesive, but as a collection of songs, I will go so far as to say its flawless. Some of the songs here are some of the greatest of the 20th century. My 2nd favorite Beatles record and one of the best albums period.

Quick Album Review: “Sgt. Pepper’s” by the Lonely Hearts Club Band—The concept album is born, and it’s the typical corny concept you’d expect from Paul. Greatest album? No. Not even their best album. But it is a great album, and the closer “A Day in the Life” is brilliant (it kinda changed music).

Artwork used internally at DIC Entertainment during the production of the Super Mario World cartoon, replacing Marge Simpson with Mario. According to a former DIC employee, this was made due to an inside joke at the studio, though the exact nature of the joke has been lost.

Quick Album Review: “Revolver” by the Blubs—If the Beatles marked change in sound was too subtle for you on “Rubber Soul”, “Revolver” positively slaps you in the face with it. It is not a hot take to say that this is the one Beatles album that is universally agreed to be great, and I agree.

Every time I watch ALIEN I am transfixed thinking to myself "there's no way they've left themselves enough room to get the third horizontal line in that E without it looking like a squashed-in mess!" but no, every single time there it is, and it's beautiful. Most tense part of the movie tbh.

Quick Album Review: “Rubber Soul” by—Here’s a spicy take: Kind of overrated. I always hear that this album was revolutionary, but this might just be a case of it being too subtle for a modern millennial’s ears. I do like this album a lot, but I’m maybe a little underwhelmed by the hype around it.

Quick Album Review: “Help!” by the bsdrif—This album is half great and half okay. It makes for a uneven experience but it’s best songs are all-timers (“Help” “Hide Your Love Away” “Ticket to Ride” “Yesterday” “I’ve Just Seen a Face”, etc.). Though it’s biggest sin is closing on “Dizzy Miss Lizzy.”

Quick Album Review: “Beatles for Sale” by zzzzzz—The boys at their boredest and tiredest. I imagine this thousand year stare is how they looked during the sessions. But even if that’s the case, the music is still pretty good. Underrated.

Quick Album Review: “A Hard Day’s Night” by harumph—An album so raucous and energetic that it borders on being a tad one-note. This could have been their artistic peak if they hadn’t been even the slightest ambitious. It is the peak of their fame, positively reveling about being on top of the world.

Quick Album Review: “With the Beatles” by hmph—Mild hot take alert: I like this album more than “Please Please Me”. It’s the same album, but it’s meatier, more confident, and the songwriting has strongly improved. It has “Hold Me Tight”, which is why I guess everyone hates it (it does suck).

Quick Album Review: “Please Please Me” by the Beatles—It’s not fair to say that their debut is my least favorite of their albums (not including Yellow Submarine), but it feels like a fossil compared to their later work. I admire its raw energy and there are a few great songs on it. It’s fine.

Quick Album Review: “Sign O the Times” by Prince—I admit I was underwhelmed when I first heard it. It’s not groundbreaking in the way that his earlier albums were, but I’ve grown to love it the more I listen to it. A triumphant victory lap album that definitively marks the end of his golden era.

Album recommendation: Any DeBarge album—Robert Christgau, the smug prick of rock critics, gave “In a Special Way” a rare A+ and I actually agree with this assessment. Smooth, relaxing early 80’s R&B. It’s hard to pick a favorite since they’re all pretty great. Listen to all of them!

Quick Album Review: “Parade” by Prince—Another great soundtrack that’s also just a great album on its own terms. It’s a very diverse and (occasionally) experimental transitional album with a nice flow. I could go on and on about how “Kiss” is a perfect song and how “Mountains” is…’peak’ Prince.
