Just hanging in my tree minding my own business.
The BBC gained a fair amount of sympathy following Trump's threats but then, for some unfathomable reason, chose to invite Kelvin MacKenzie to talk about integrity and standards in journalism. Seriously.

Whatever your political persuasion, whatever your ethical boundaries, surely there is point beyond which the sheer misery inflicted upon ordinary people by exploitative bastards like Andrew Milne should make us question how society ought to protect itself from such people.
Shocking article in the Sheffield Tribune. A solicitor, Andrew Milne, buying up freeholds of houses and then making (false) threats to the leaseholders to bully them into buying the freehold at a huge premium.

"[...] more than thirty per cent of American respondents said that their political opponents were not fully human. [...]

These findings echo a broader pattern political scientists call affective polarization: the replacement of disagreement with abhorrence."

How Monsters Went from Menacing to Misunderstood
For most of human history, monsters were repugnant aberrations, breaches of the natural and moral order. What’s behind our relentless urge to humanize them?

Mercury is a potent neurotoxin — yet the UK still allows it in dental fillings.
43 countries have already moved on. If Germany and many African nations can phase it out safely, so can we.

"These far-right initiatives are often rooted in a worldview outlining the illegitimacy of the state or the promotion of violence against the state or other identities. This means the ideological entrenchment process [...] poses an extremist challenge."

In extremist circles, the idea of retreating to the land has been repurposed into a political strategy.

I genuinely don't see the appeal of fictional horror 🤷‍♀️ Is this a minority view? It seems very popular.

I'd quite like to know what she means by "culturally coherent" because I have virtually nothing in common with white supremacists/the far right.
Sunday Times interview Tory "rising star" Katie Lam

She is clear she wants lots of legal migrants to be told to "go home" so as "to leave a mostly but not entirely culturally coherent group of people"

(The interviewer suggests she is scrapping ILR or stripping people of it)

I was at FiLiA 2025 and what I saw, amid everything, was the power of female solidarity. Let's not lose sight of that.
The tenth anniversary conference of FiLiA, a major women’s liberation organisation in the UK, has just been held in Brighton.
