what orders "the US military" will or won't follow is situational dependent and never a blanket answer

But JSOC (specifically DEVGRU, a certain TF at Bragg, and associated hangers-on) will *absolutely* follow orders to detain/otherwise do something to Dem pols, with the right made up predicate
The president's unaccountable assassination squad is now also an unaccountable kidnapping squad and dems can either plan to take action accordingly or be replaced by those who will

Im seeing discussions about consultations with congress, authorizations of force etc. I have to say this transcends any of what I would call sub constitutional technicalities. The president has gone to war with a foreign power and, it seems, kidnapped a foreign head of state on the basis of nothing.

Yes yes yes and yes. And analysts in Europe have been saying this for quite a while too.

Even compared to Iraq, this is orders of magnitude more severe in its disregard for law and any semblance of legitimacy.

Obviously my opinion on the strikes wouldn’t change even if Congress had authorized this like the War on Terror but I think it’s worth understanding how big of a fucking deal this is. Venezuelans are dying for no reason and America’s legal fabric has just been shredded. Fascism has arrived.

the phrase “consitutional crisis” has been thrown around a lot but this is THE constitutional crisis. If Trump can just throw the military at whatever he wants, America as we knew it is done.

The Venezuela strikes are wanton, dangerous, inhumane, illegal and stupid. But they are also not remotely “America First” nor in any way the “no more foreign wars” MAGA voters claimed they voted for. Will be interesting to see how they respond.

There also need to be elected Democrats, particularly anyone considering a 2028 run, out in public post haste making it clear that a Democratic administration will aggressively prosecute those who carry out illegal orders.
Would like to see some JAG officers on the news talking about whether these military strikes are technically legal and, if not, what sort of liability commanders have incurred by carrying them out.

The reason you go scorched-earth on this is the same reason we should have gone scorched-earth on impoundment; you can't stop it from happening, but you absolutely need to stop it from becoming a normal part of politics. You have to draw a line.
They didn’t even bother to ask for an AUMF, impeachment

You have to go through Congress for anything resembling this type of war. Round up Massie and Paul types and have him removed. The people in this administration are on actual drugs and have insatiable bloodlust and bespoke mental illnesses. He has to go, and everybody with him.

Well,
You have to wonder if the strikes on the "drug boats" were just a way to test which generals would follow illegal orders wrt an undeclared war with Venezuela and weed out those who wouldn't.

and this time they are more bloodthirsty, more incompetent, and less interested in even pretending to justify it

Three million people live in Caracas, five million in the metro area. It's one of the densest cities in South America. Remember this in the morning when they try to spin this as anything other than a cold-blooded attack on a major civilian center.
